Job Overview: The Dengue Control Project Manager will play a crucial role in supporting national efforts to prevent and control dengue, particularly through the introduction of innovative technologies such as Wolbachia-based interventions. This position involves project management and technical activities, focusing on epidemiological, entomological, and community-level strategies to enhance the national response to dengue. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with CHAI’s country and regional teams to provide strategic, technical, and operational support to the Ministry of Health, ensuring the integration of new tools into national programs and fostering community acceptance of interventions. The role requires a proactive and solutions-oriented individual who is passionate about public health and has strong communication and leadership skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the Ministry of Health in developing and updating the national dengue strategy and operational plans, focusing on Wolbachia deployment.
Contribute to site selection and prioritization criteria for intervention areas.
Act as CHAI’s primary subnational focal point to ensure alignment between national priorities and local execution.
Coordinate day-to-day implementation strategies with health teams, tracking milestones and addressing risks.
Oversee procurement and logistics for project materials and supplies.
Deliver training and mentorship to Ministry of Health and municipal teams, developing tailored job aids and training materials.
Map stakeholders and co-design community engagement plans, ensuring effective communication and feedback mechanisms.
Support regulatory and ethics compliance, facilitating tracking of adherence to national and WHO guidelines. 1
Establish monitoring frameworks for entomological and epidemiological indicators, coordinating data collection and analysis. 1
Assist in budgeting and reporting for subnational activities, preparing progress updates for stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience in public health, entomology, or related fields.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships in challenging environments.
Exceptional problem-solving and organizational skills, including time management.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to create compelling presentations and reports.
Proven experience in translating analysis into actionable strategies and supervising project execution.
Ability to learn technical subjects quickly and communicate complex issues clearly.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and internet tools.
Capacity to work diplomatically with policymakers and partners.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in public health, entomology, anthropology, or other health-related disciplines, or a Bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience. Educational qualifications should reflect a strong foundation in health-related fields, particularly those related to community health and vector-borne diseases.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master’s degree, or at least 4 years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. Experience should be related to public health projects, community engagement, or entomology, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Languages: Fluency in both Spanish and English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication with local communities and international stakeholders is essential. Additional language skills may be considered an advantage, particularly in the context of community engagement and outreach.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Guatemala City and requires significant travel (at least 50% of the time) to remote areas with limited infrastructure.
