Job Overview: The Local security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Associate (LSA) plays a crucial role in advising the Yemen Representative on security matters, ensuring the safety of UNFPA personnel and operations in a challenging environment. Under the supervision of the Security Specialist, the LSA is responsible for coordinating day-to-day security activities, assisting in the implementation of security functions, and providing guidance on security planning and risk management. The position requires close collaboration with the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and other organizations within the UN Security Management System (UNSMS). The LSA's work is vital in maintaining a secure environment for UNFPA's humanitarian response efforts in Yemen, particularly in light of the ongoing security challenges and the need for effective program implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Local Security Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in drafting routine security reports such as Security Incident Reports (SIR), supporting the supervisor in planning functions related to the safety and security of UNFPA personnel, and safeguarding premises and resources. The LSA will monitor the local security situation, provide regular updates to the supervisor, and assist in security activities that support UNFPA personnel and operations. Additionally, the LSA will help establish effective communication systems, conduct security-related contingency exercises, and maintain liaison with local authorities and security counterparts. The role also involves coordinating mandatory security training for UNFPA personnel and providing any necessary security-related training, particularly in the local language.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completion of secondary education, with additional technical or university courses in relevant fields being advantageous. A university degree in Political Science, Military Studies, Security Management, Law Enforcement, or related disciplines is preferred. At least 6 years of relevant experience is required, with a demonstrated ability to work closely with UN counterparts, government officials, and NGOs. Experience in a Security Management System within the UN or similar organizations is a significant advantage. Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and dissemination is desirable, along with computer literacy in office software such as Microsoft Office. A willingness to travel to the field as necessary is also essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to security management or a relevant field. A university degree or equivalent in areas such as Political Science, Military Studies, Security Management, or Law Enforcement is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
