Job Overview: The HIV/AIDS Officer will report to the HIV/AIDS manager and is responsible for providing professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and HIV programmes/projects. This includes the Global Fund AGYW Strategic Initiative within the Country Programme. The Officer will engage in development planning, execution, management, and implementation of various technical and administrative program tasks. The role is crucial for facilitating programme development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of results. The Officer will also contribute to UNICEF's vision of an AIDS-free generation by ensuring that children and adolescents have access to life-saving HIV prevention, treatment, and care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support programme development, planning, and implementation by providing technical assistance to the National Department of Health (NDoH), South Africa National AIDS Council (SANAC), and UNICEF-supported districts.
Manage programme monitoring and delivery of results, ensuring that all activities align with UNICEF's goals.
Contribute to the overall strategic direction of UNICEF's HIV/AIDS initiatives, ensuring alignment with national and global health goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a University Degree in public health, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, environmental health sciences, biostatistics, socio-medical, health education, epidemiology, or other health-related sciences. A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in HIV/AIDS planning and management or relevant areas of health care is required. Experience in HIV/AIDS programme/project development within a UN system agency or organization is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a University Degree in relevant health-related fields such as public health, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, environmental health sciences, biostatistics, socio-medical, health education, or epidemiology. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of health systems and the specific challenges faced in HIV/AIDS management.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in HIV/AIDS planning and management, as well as relevant experience in health care or health/emergency preparedness at the international level or in a developing country. Candidates with experience in developing HIV/AIDS programmes/projects within the UN system will have a competitive advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, or a local language, is considered an asset and may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders.
