Job Overview: The Driver position at WFP involves providing efficient and safe transportation services for authorized personnel and goods. The driver will be responsible for operating various types of vehicles, including light vehicles, trucks, and motorcycles, and may also be required to handle boats for transportation. Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the Driver include:
Providing transportation services for authorized personnel, ensuring adherence to the authorized itinerary and safety regulations.
Assisting with the translation of simple conversations between local language and English as needed.
Receiving official personnel and visitors at the airport or other arrival points, facilitating visa processing and customs formalities.
Maintaining accurate vehicle logs and reporting daily on the mechanical condition of the vehicle to ensure efficient fuel consumption and vehicle usage.
Keeping the assigned vehicle and related equipment clean and in good condition, performing timely maintenance, and ensuring the vehicle is equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies.
Following established protocols for deliveries and reporting any incidents or issues to the supervisor immediately.
Performing basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining order in warehouses, including the delivery or collection of various items and handling mail services.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Driver position must possess the following qualifications:
A valid professional driver's license for vehicles up to 17 seats.
At least two years of driving experience, preferably in an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safety record.
Knowledge of driving regulations, protocols, and local road conditions.
Familiarity with vehicle safety standards and emergency procedures.
Basic mechanical knowledge to assess vehicle suitability and perform minor repairs.
Strong customer service orientation, responsibility, courtesy, and tact in interactions with others.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary education and possess formal training as a driver, along with a valid driving license or certificate for the assigned vehicle, in accordance with local regulations.
Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant work experience as a driver is required, with a preference for candidates who have experience in international settings or with humanitarian organizations. Experience in defensive driving is also valued.
Languages: Proficiency in the official UN language used at the duty station is mandatory, along with fluency in the local language if it differs from the UN language. This ensures effective communication in the role.
