Job Overview:
The Protection Assistant – GBV Case Worker will play a crucial role in implementing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) case management activities under the supervision of the GBV Coordinator. This position is vital for providing support to GBV survivors and other beneficiaries impacted by crises in the North Area Office, specifically in Sheraro and Mai-tsebri. The assistant will be responsible for delivering high-quality case management services, ensuring that interventions are confidential and adhere to established standards. The role requires collaboration with the DRC Tigray protection team and involves working closely with community structures to enhance GBV response services. The assistant will also engage in community outreach to identify needs and gaps in GBV programming, ensuring a survivor-centered approach in all activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Assistant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing case management services through confidential interventions; conducting referrals to relevant services; offering counseling to survivors; managing cases in safe spaces; maintaining GBV data in compliance with information sharing protocols; facilitating emotional support group sessions; delivering basic GBV training to community structures; identifying gaps in GBV response services; ensuring quality implementation and monitoring of GBV-related projects; engaging with community representatives; protecting the identities of survivors; and performing additional protection activities as assigned by the protection manager. Reporting responsibilities include maintaining and updating case management databases, entering client data in a timely manner, participating in supervision sessions, and attending internal case conferences and team meetings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in protection, preferably with an international humanitarian organization. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in complex environments are essential. Experience in case management and referral activities is desirable, along with field experience in emergency contexts. Candidates should demonstrate personal initiative, analytical skills, and proactive problem-solving abilities. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain working relationships across the organization are crucial, as is a commitment to the values of DRC. Good communication skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively are also required.

Educational Background:
A university degree in social work, social science, law, or a related field from a recognized institution is required for this position. Relevant certifications or licenses may also be beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in protection work, ideally within an international humanitarian context. Experience in case management and awareness of referral processes is highly desirable, as is field experience in emergency situations. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to navigate complex and challenging circumstances effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, along with proficiency in Amharic and Tigrinya. These language skills are essential for effective communication with beneficiaries and stakeholders in the region.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is for a duration of 5 months, classified as a National Contract under Band I2 – Non-Management. The designated duty stations are Sheraro and Mai-tsebri, with an expected start date as soon as possible. Salary and conditions will align with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National employees.
