Job Overview: The Communications Consultant (Design and Social Media) at UN Women India Country Office is responsible for supporting the conceptualization and design of media products that enhance the visibility and awareness of UN Women among partners, the media, and the public. Reporting to the Head of Communications, the consultant will manage social media handles and assist with administrative tasks for the Communications team. The role involves providing creative and design support for various communication and advocacy materials, ensuring that all outputs align with the organization's standards and brand identity. The consultant will also be tasked with driving the India Country Office's social media presence and website, gathering content, managing daily social media activities, and creating engaging digital content that reflects UN Women's mission and initiatives. Additionally, the consultant will facilitate knowledge management and sharing best practices within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Communications Consultant include:
Conceptualizing, designing, and laying out high-quality, innovative materials for web-based communications, including multimedia tools, infographics, and illustrations in both Hindi and English.
Supporting the design of newsletters, brochures, and print materials that effectively communicate the achievements of various programs and initiatives.
Managing the India Country Office's social media presence across platforms such as Twitter/X, Facebook, and Instagram, including content posting, tagging, and sharing.
Drafting content for the Regional Office's LinkedIn account and maintaining files, databases, and systems relevant to the digital presence of the India Country Office.
Providing timely updates on engagement metrics and supporting social media reporting.
Contributing to the identification of best practices and lessons learned, and exchanging information with other Country Offices and Regional Offices.
Performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor and supporting special web/digital/media projects undertaken by the India Country Office.
Working independently and collaboratively with teams to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Communications Consultant position should possess the following qualifications:
A strong understanding of design principles and the ability to create, edit, and present information in clear and visually appealing formats.
Knowledge of social media and communication strategies, tools, and best practices.
Proficiency in event planning and the ability to identify relevant events and stories for mass communication.
Good multimedia skills, including experience with graphic design software and tools.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in design, communications, public relations, or journalism. A Master's degree in Communications is desirable and will be considered an asset for this position.
Experience: The position requires at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in providing design and creative support for internal and external communications and advocacy strategies. Candidates should have experience using computer applications and software packages such as Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, and other relevant AI design tools. Additionally, familiarity with social media and digital communication platforms, as well as analytical tools like Hootsuite and Google Analytics, is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English and Hindi is mandatory for this position. A working knowledge of another UN official language is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: The position is expected to be full-time, and the consultant will be required to use their own computer equipment, as the office will not provide any. Travel and Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) will be arranged and settled according to the consultant contract norms. The evaluation process for candidates will include a presentation-based interview and the submission of design and writing samples, including a link to a design portfolio if available.
