The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO) play a crucial role in this reform, led by an empowered UN Resident Coordinator who represents the UN Secretary-General at the country level. Job Overview:
The Development Coordination Officer / Economist position is integral to the UN Resident Coordination Office in Yemen. The role involves planning, facilitating, and consolidating evidence-based analysis of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) status, particularly focusing on economic transformation, green and just transitions, digital transformation, and SDG financing. The officer will provide substantive advice to the Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), advocating for strong partnerships within the UN System and with national counterparts, including International Financial Institutions (IFIs). Duties and Responsibilities:
The Development Coordination Officer / Economist will be responsible for a variety of duties, including:
  • Planning and facilitating evidence-based analysis of the SDGs, providing advice on economic transformation and SDG financing.
  • Advocating for partnerships within the UN System and with national counterparts to support economic policy reframing.
  • Coordinating the development of an integrated SDG programming cycle, including roadmaps and annual reports.
  • Planning and directing knowledge management around economic transformation and SDG financing.
  • Conducting market analysis to identify trends and challenges in the Yemen economy.
  • Researching and presenting best practices in economic transformation and SDG financing.
  • Monitoring regional and global economic trends and their implications for the SDGs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in macroeconomic policy, economic research, and analysis in development cooperation or related areas. Experience in the Middle East, particularly knowledge of the current regional situation and crisis in Yemen, is essential. Familiarity with economies in conflict and the ability to apply development economics theory to specific country contexts is desirable.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics is required for this position. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Experience:
