Job Overview: The position of National Research Expert for Social Protection Country Profile involves conducting comprehensive research and analysis of Algeria's social protection system. The expert will work closely with both national and international partners to develop a detailed Country Profile Report (CPR) that assesses the current landscape of social protection in Algeria. This role requires a deep understanding of both contributory and non-contributory social protection mechanisms, as well as the ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research. The expert will be responsible for gathering data, reviewing literature, and engaging with key stakeholders to ensure a thorough understanding of the social protection framework. The CPR aims to provide a baseline for monitoring the effectiveness of the social protection system and to offer evidence-based policy recommendations for future reforms. The expert will also participate in workshops and meetings to discuss findings and collaborate with government representatives and UN partners throughout the project.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National Research Expert will have a range of responsibilities, including:
Participating in an inception workshop to confirm drafting requirements and timelines.
Conducting a thorough literature review of existing reports and legislation related to social protection in Algeria.
Collecting qualitative and quantitative data through interviews and site visits to relevant institutions.
Populating an inventory of social protection programs and producing visual data representations such as charts and figures.
Collaborating closely with the international research expert to ensure alignment in the development of the CPR.
Maintaining regular communication with the Government of Algeria and other stakeholders to facilitate data collection and feedback.
Drafting the CPR in accordance with the Template for Authors, ensuring adherence to the 20,000-word limit and timeline.
Participating in a launch event to present the CPR findings to government officials and discuss future pathways for social protection in Algeria.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in political science, sociology, economics, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. Additionally, a minimum of five years of experience in social protection within the Algerian context is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of social protection systems, policy frameworks, and the ability to conduct rigorous research. Experience working with government entities and international organizations is also advantageous.
