Job Overview: The position of Individual Contractor for Translation Services is designed to support the CMS Secretariat during and after the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15), which will take place in Campo Grande, Brazil, from March 23 to March 29, 202
The contractor will be responsible for translating official documents from English to Spanish and vice versa, as well as from English to French and vice versa. This role is critical in ensuring that all documentation is accurately translated and proofread to maintain high-quality standards. The contractor will work remotely, collaborating with a translation team to meet the demands of the conference and ensure that all materials are ready for distribution in a timely manner. The position requires a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of the terminology used within the UN and CMS contexts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Individual Contractor include:
Translating official documents from English to Spanish and vice versa, and from English to French and vice versa, ensuring accuracy and coherence in the vocabulary used.
Proofreading translated documents before and after the meeting to ensure high-quality output.
Collaborating with the translation team to verify terminology and ensure the accuracy of quotations reproduced in the documents.
Maintaining communication with the Legal Officer and Head of Conference Service for clarification on any text ambiguities.
Utilizing official documents from the CMS, UNEP, and UN as reference sources during the translation process.
Adhering to tight deadlines and managing time effectively to meet the demands of the conference schedule.
Ensuring that all translations respect the terminology used in the UN, UNEP, and CMS contexts.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include:
A recognized 1st Level degree in a relevant field.
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in translation, editing, or writing, with strong editing and writing skills.
Relevant experience in the translation or publications field, particularly with large documents.
A demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail and ensure accuracy in translations.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Familiarity with the terminology used in the UN, UNEP, and CMS Secretariat is essential.
Previous experience working with CMS is highly desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a recognized 1st Level degree in a relevant field, which may include translation, linguistics, or a related discipline.
