Job Overview:
The Text Processing Centre (TPC) within the Languages, Publications and Conference Management (LPC) Bureau is responsible for providing proofreading and text processing services for multilingual documents. The incumbent will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of translated texts, adhering to ICAO's editorial standards. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. The incumbent will report directly to the Coordinator of the TPC and will be expected to manage multiple tasks efficiently, adapting to changing priorities and deadlines. The role involves not only proofreading but also formatting documents, verifying the accuracy of translated materials, and utilizing automated information systems for document management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide proofreading services to ensure the accuracy and consistency of translated texts, verifying elements such as titles, dates, numbers, formatting, and overall presentation.
  • Perform text processing services, including formatting graphics, charts, and figures, and applying ICAO’s editorial standards.
  • Utilize automated information systems to manage document workflows and ensure timely processing of texts.
  • Adapt work methods and schedules to meet deadlines, demonstrating flexibility in response to changing priorities.
  • Provide administrative and supervisory support, including training colleagues and acting as Team Leader during meetings as needed.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Coordinator.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a secondary school education or equivalent, ideally from a Russian-speaking institution, along with completion of a typing course and an office automation course. A minimum of five years of professional experience in text composition and proofreading is essential. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in using desktop publishing tools and have a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure are critical for success in this role.

Educational Background:
The position requires a secondary school diploma or equivalent, with a focus on education from a Russian-speaking school. Additional qualifications such as completion of typing and office automation courses are necessary to perform the job effectively.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience in text composition and proofreading. This experience should include working with text processing equipment and familiarity with desktop publishing software. The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines is crucial for this role.

Languages:
The position requires an excellent command of the Russian language, both spoken and written, with a strong understanding of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. A very good level of spoken and written English is also required. Knowledge of additional languages such as Arabic, Chinese, French, or Spanish is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
This is a locally-recruited position, restricted to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and applicants with a valid work permit. The position is fixed-term for an initial period of three years, with the first year being probationary for external candidates. ICAO staff members are expected to adhere to the Standards of Conduct for the International Civil Service. The position offers a competitive salary of CAD 51,045 per annum at the G-5 level, along with a comprehensive benefits package in accordance with the policies of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC).
