Job Overview:
The Case Management Assistant role is crucial for providing structured case management services to vulnerable individuals under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader. The primary objective of this position is to conduct thorough needs assessments, develop actionable plans, and ensure consistent follow-up with clients. The Case Management Assistant will also be responsible for making safe referrals to various service providers, including medical, legal, and shelter services, thereby facilitating access to essential support for individuals in need. Additionally, the role involves organizing awareness-raising sessions within communities to enhance understanding of available services and resources. The Case Management Assistant will contribute to the development and dissemination of informational materials, ensuring that clients are well-informed about their options. Proper documentation and secure storage of case files are also critical responsibilities, as is the coordination with other DRC departments to facilitate effective referrals and information-sharing. The position may also require the assistant to contribute to the ongoing development of a service mapping system that details available services and assistance in DRC’s operational areas. Overall, the Case Management Assistant plays a vital role in achieving the protection objectives set forth by DRC, ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive the support they need in a timely and effective manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive case management services, including conducting needs assessments, developing action plans, and ensuring regular follow-up with clients.
  • Make safe referrals to medical, legal, shelter, and other service providers to ensure clients receive the necessary support.
  • Provide cash or in-kind assistance to mitigate protection-related risks faced by clients.
  • Organize and facilitate awareness-raising sessions for communities to inform them about available services and resources.
  • Contribute to the development and dissemination of information materials that assist clients in understanding their options.
  • Ensure proper documentation and secure storage of case files to maintain confidentiality and integrity of client information.
  • Coordinate with other DRC departments to facilitate referrals and information-sharing, enhancing the overall effectiveness of service delivery.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous updating of a service mapping system that details available services and assistance in DRC’s areas of operation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Protection Manager that are relevant to achieving protection objectives.

Required Qualifications:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with vulnerable individuals, staff members, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Comfort in discussing sensitive topics and working with individuals in distress.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • A strong sense of personal integrity and a thorough understanding of confidentiality and ethical considerations in case management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, and Windows operating systems is essential.
  • Ukrainian language skills are mandatory for effective communication with clients and stakeholders.

Educational Background:
While a relevant educational background in law, social work, or a related field is preferred, it is not strictly required for this position. Candidates with practical experience in social work or case management, particularly with vulnerable groups, will be considered favorably. The emphasis is on the candidate's ability to demonstrate the necessary skills and competencies required for effective case management.

Experience:
Candidates should possess previous experience in communications within the humanitarian or civil society sector. Experience in social work, case management, or working with vulnerable populations is considered an asset. The role requires a demonstrated ability to engage with individuals in distress and to manage sensitive situations with care and professionalism.

Languages:
Ukrainian language skills are mandatory for this position, as effective communication with clients is essential. Good English language skills are preferred but not required, as the primary focus is on serving the local population in Ukraine.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered on a contract basis, initially for a probationary period of 3 months, followed by a renewable contract for an additional 3 months, contingent upon funding availability. The designated duty station for this role is Sumy, and the expected start date is October 15th, 202
  • Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff.
