Job Overview:
The Laboratory Technologist position is crucial for providing technical support to laboratory services related to Migration Health Assessments and other programs implemented by the IOM Migration Health Division in Bangkok, Thailand. The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer and the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager. Responsibilities include performing laboratory procedures for pre-examination, examination, and post-examination activities using standard equipment, contributing to the implementation of laboratory quality management systems, and ensuring compliance with established protocols. The role also involves maintaining laboratory safety standards, managing laboratory stock, and facilitating equipment maintenance to ensure optimal operation. The Laboratory Technologist will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory results, adhering to biosafety measures, and participating in the continuous improvement of laboratory services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory Technologist include: performing assigned laboratory procedures for pre-examination, examination, and post-examination activities; contributing to the implementation of laboratory quality management systems; taking on the focal point role for quality system essentials as requested; ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); adhering to biosafety measures; organizing and operating activities for timely delivery of results; performing quality control and assurance activities; facilitating laboratory equipment maintenance; managing laboratory stock; alerting the laboratory supervisor to operational problems; maintaining organized record keeping and information management; developing and updating SOPs; participating in service system improvements; managing client expectations; ensuring compliance with IOM instructions; and undertaking other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Laboratory Technologist position include a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Sciences, Microbiology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution. A valid license to practice is required where applicable. Candidates should possess relevant clinical laboratory experience, with three years required for Bachelor’s degree holders and five years for diploma holders. Knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques, laboratory quality management systems, and biosafety principles is essential. Candidates should also be computer literate, with skills in data collection and analysis for monitoring laboratory services.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma from an accredited academic institution in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Sciences, Microbiology, or a related discipline. The educational institution must be recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. A valid license to practice is required in jurisdictions where applicable, ensuring that candidates meet the necessary legal and professional standards for laboratory work.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of relevant clinical laboratory experience for those holding a Bachelor’s degree, and five years for diploma holders. Experience in a busy laboratory setting is preferred, along with relevant technical knowledge and practices related to laboratory operations. Familiarity with clinical laboratory techniques, quality management systems, and biosafety principles is crucial. Proven expertise in laboratory operations and a specialization in laboratory practices will be considered advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in Thai and English, both oral and written, is required for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication within the laboratory and with external stakeholders, ensuring that all laboratory procedures and documentation are accurately completed and understood.

Additional Notes:
The position is classified as General Service (G-5) with a monthly salary of THB 68,607.4
  • It is a Special Short-Term Contract with an initial duration of three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The desired start date is as soon as possible. This position is open for Thai Nationals only, and candidates must hold a valid residence and work permit for Thailand. The appointment is subject to medical fitness certification and verification of residency and work authorization. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
