Job Overview:
The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and recent graduates who have a specific interest in migration-related issues or whose academic studies align with IOM's programs and activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and may be required to hold a scholarship for internship placements or be sponsored by governmental or non-governmental institutions. The intern will work under the supervision of the Director of the Coordinating Office for the Mediterranean and the Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta, providing support to the Programme & Policy Support Unit. The role involves assisting with various tasks, including preparing presentations, conducting background research, reviewing and translating program documents, maintaining databases, and supporting the organization of meetings and events. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of migration and contribute to IOM's mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Assisting in the preparation of presentations, briefs, fact sheets, and other materials relevant to IOM's programs.
  • Conducting background research and data collection on identified issues to inform program development.
  • Reviewing and translating program documents, including concept notes and project proposals.
  • Maintaining up-to-date databases related to project development, donor reporting, and partnerships.
  • Providing assistance in organizing meetings, trainings, and events.
  • Taking minutes during internal and external meetings and ensuring timely elaboration of these minutes.
  • Supporting coordination efforts with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Assisting in other Programme & Policy Support activities as required, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the unit.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet several qualifications to be considered for the internship. They should be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent), enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or have graduated with one of the above degrees within the last 12 months. Additionally, candidates must be between 20 and 36 years of age. Previous experience in administrative tasks, research, and data collection is beneficial, particularly in the field of migration, which would be considered an advantage.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in the final year of a bachelor's degree program or a graduate program. Alternatively, candidates who have graduated with a relevant degree within the last year are also eligible to apply. The focus should be on fields related to migration, international relations, social sciences, or other relevant disciplines that align with IOM's mission and activities.

Experience:
The level of experience required for this position is relatively entry-level, as it is an internship. Candidates should have some experience in basic administrative tasks such as document filing, data entry, and email correspondence. Experience in supporting team members with organizing meetings and preparing meeting minutes is also beneficial. Participation in research and data collection activities related to project implementation is encouraged. While previous experience in the field of migration is advantageous, it is not mandatory for applicants.

Languages:
Fluency in both Italian and English is required for this position, encompassing both oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of French is considered an advantage, as IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Proficiency in the required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the necessary communication standards.

Additional Notes:
The internship is subject to funding confirmation, and any offer made to the candidate will depend on this. The appointment will also require certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and other authorizations as applicable. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, although those receiving financial remuneration or credits from their university or sponsoring body will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the internship, but interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including discrimination and harassment. The organization does not charge any fees during the recruitment process and only accepts applications submitted through its online recruitment system.
