Job Overview:
The Quality Engineer will play a crucial role in a large-scale procurement project aimed at enhancing health, education, tourism, and public finance sectors in Jordan. This 5-year project is designed to improve health outcomes for families and communities, enhance learning outcomes for school-aged children, and protect primary protected areas and heritage sites in Jordan. The Engineer will ensure technical oversight and quality assurance in establishing a restoration and conservation laboratory, which includes reviewing and validating laboratory designs and technical specifications for equipment, conducting quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) during equipment installation, and liaising with suppliers to ensure compliance with operational requirements. The position requires collaboration with a project team and involves significant technical guidance and reporting responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Engineer will be responsible for reviewing and validating architectural and engineering designs of the restoration laboratory, ensuring compliance with international conservation standards. They will advise on optimal laboratory layouts, review technical specifications for conservation equipment, and develop QA/QC procedures for equipment inspection and acceptance. The Engineer will supervise the installation and calibration of equipment, produce QA/QC reports, and coordinate with suppliers throughout the procurement and installation phases. Additionally, they will provide technical guidance on best practices for conservation laboratory setup and prepare various technical documentation, including validation reports and final project summaries.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in Conservation Engineering, Restoration Engineering, Materials Science, Archaeological/Heritage Engineering, or a closely related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s Degree in these areas with an additional two years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s Degree. A minimum of two years of professional experience in restoration and conservation of antiquities is required, along with proven expertise in heritage conservation standards and practices. Candidates should demonstrate experience in reviewing laboratory designs, validating technical specifications, and have a strong track record in QA/QC processes for specialized equipment. Excellent documentation, reporting, and communication skills are also desired.

Educational Background:
A Master’s Degree in Conservation Engineering, Restoration Engineering, Materials Science, Archaeological/Heritage Engineering, or a closely related field is required for this position. A Bachelor’s Degree in the aforementioned areas or a related field may be accepted if accompanied by two additional years of relevant experience, thus allowing for flexibility in educational qualifications while ensuring that candidates have the necessary expertise and knowledge in the field.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience specifically in the restoration and conservation of antiquities. Candidates should have a proven track record in the heritage conservation industry, demonstrating familiarity with standards and practices set by organizations such as UNESCO, ICOMOS, and ICCROM. Experience in reviewing laboratory designs and validating technical specifications for conservation tools and equipment is essential, as is a strong background in QA/QC processes related to procurement, inspection, and installation of specialized equipment.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory, with excellent presentation, report writing, and communication skills required in both languages. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not explicitly required for this position.
