Launched at COP21 in Paris, this partnership comprises nearly 100 partners, including city and country members, and is supported by various governmental and non-governmental organizations. Interns will play a crucial role in assisting the development and implementation of capacity-building activities aimed at urban mobility practitioners and policymakers across Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa. The position offers a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful work that addresses the challenges of sustainable urban mobility, particularly in the Global South, while also allowing interns to develop their professional skills in a collaborative environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities that include assisting in the development and implementation of training workshops and online courses for urban mobility practitioners. They will support the planning and moderation of training series, including the preparation of necessary documents such as invitations and agendas. Additionally, interns will help organize events that present methodological guidelines for urban mobility and facilitate communities of practice. Research and data collection on urban mobility topics will also be part of their duties, along with contributing to the writing of technical articles and guidance documents for both internal and external communication. Interns will support the development of communication materials, fact sheets, and summaries, and will be involved in knowledge management and network management activities. They will also facilitate working groups with knowledge partners on priority topics for the MobiliseYourCity initiative.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled in university studies or have recently completed their studies within the last six months in fields such as transport, economics, engineering, politics, communication, urban or social sciences, or related disciplines. Business fluency in both German and English is mandatory, while knowledge of French and Spanish is considered an asset. A solid understanding of sustainable urban mobility challenges, particularly in the Global South, is required. Relevant professional experience in international development cooperation, especially in climate change and transport/urban mobility, is preferred. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, a commitment to teamwork, and the ability to work independently and reliably. Proficiency in standard Office programs and design software is also necessary.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have ongoing or recently completed university studies in relevant fields such as transport, economics, engineering, politics, communication, urban or social sciences. Candidates must be currently enrolled as students or have graduated no longer than six months prior to the internship start date. Additionally, candidates must hold a Belgian work permit, which must be uploaded during the application process. GIZ will not cover costs or apply for work permits for internships. The monthly stipend for this position is €1,350 gross, and the contract will be governed by Belgian law.
