Job Overview:
The intern position in Transport and Climate Change is crucial in addressing the significant role of transport in global CO2 emissions, which account for approximately a quarter of energy-related emissions. The intern will be part of GIZ’s Infrastructure and Mobility cluster, specifically within the Transport and Climate Change team. This team is dedicated to facilitating the transition to zero-emission transport systems, which is essential for achieving the Paris climate targets by 205
  • The intern will engage in various activities that include providing advisory services, facilitating knowledge exchange, and offering data-driven insights to partners in the Global South. The role demands a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in sustainable transport policy and digital communication skills. The intern will be expected to contribute creatively and efficiently to the team's objectives, working independently while also collaborating with others.

Duties and Responsibilities:
During the internship, the intern will undertake a variety of tasks, including assisting project teams with research, analysis, and technical evaluations related to transport and climate, urban mobility, digitalization, and vehicle efficiency standards. The intern will support both external and internal communication efforts for the 'Changing Transport' brand by creating and maintaining content for the associated website, social media channels, and newsletters. Additionally, the intern will help plan and implement online events, contribute to the conception and execution of online campaigns, and provide input for specialist consulting services on international climate and transport policy issues. The intern will also support the Transport Data Commons Initiative in stakeholder management and database development, analyze Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in transport, and assist with administrative tasks within the project team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this internship should have completed or be currently pursuing studies in fields such as transport science (including transport planning, engineering, or geography), economics, environmental or climate science, communication, media, political science, or international relations with a focus on climate policy. A basic understanding of development policy and the challenges faced in the transport sector in emerging and developing countries is essential, along with knowledge of international climate policy and strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in transport. The ideal candidate will possess a high degree of digital affinity, strong organizational and time-management skills, and a proactive approach to event preparation and implementation.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes either completed or ongoing studies, preferably at the undergraduate or bachelor's level, in relevant fields such as transport science, economics, environmental science, communication, political science, or related disciplines. A strong interest in development policy and an understanding of the transport sector's challenges in developing countries are also important.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, ideally through internships or academic projects, that demonstrates their ability to engage with transport and climate issues. Familiarity with data analysis and handling extensive datasets, particularly in Excel, is advantageous. Experience in digital communication and event management will also be beneficial for this role.

Languages:
A very good command of written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in one or more other languages such as German, Spanish, or French would be considered an advantage, particularly for tasks involving communication and content creation.
