Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Department of Operational Support (DOS) is dedicated to providing essential support services to various UN Secretariat entities, including peace operations and other departments. Established to enhance the operational effectiveness of the UN, DOS plays a crucial role in ensuring that these entities can function efficiently and effectively. The organization focuses on core services such as supply chain management, operational human resources management, healthcare management, capacity building, training for operations, support for uniformed capabilities, and information and communications technology (ICT) support. The Office of the Under-Secretary-General of Operational Support is responsible for providing direct advisory, executive, and management support to DOS leadership, particularly to the Under-Secretary-General. The DOS operates globally, with a mission to enhance the performance and accountability of the UN's operational support services.

Job Overview:
The Data Analytics Intern will be an integral part of the Performance and Analytics Section (PAS) within the Office of the Under-Secretary-General of Operational Support (OUSG-DOS). This internship is designed to provide valuable experience in the field of data analytics while contributing to the strategic and operational goals of the DOS. Interns will engage in various project assignments that aim to make a significant impact on the department's work. The role involves gathering and analyzing data from diverse sources, performing statistical analyses, and translating data findings into actionable insights. Interns will also have the opportunity to learn about the broader workings of the United Nations and how data analytics can drive decision-making and improve organizational performance. The position is available for both in-person and remote work, allowing flexibility in how the intern can contribute to the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Analytics intern(s) will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: gathering and analyzing data from public and internal sources, utilizing web scraping techniques; preparing data models and surveys; performing statistical and mathematical programming to interpret data; providing technical support for existing reports and dashboards; assisting with data cleaning and maintaining databases; translating data results into written reports and visual presentations; supporting data mining, optimization, metrics development, and predictive analysis; contributing to innovative data product development; and performing other duties as required. The intern will work closely with team members to ensure that the data analytics efforts align with the goals of the PAS and the broader objectives of the DOS.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). The organization is open to a wide range of educational backgrounds, with a preference for candidates pursuing studies in fields such as Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Visualization, or Analytics. While no prior work experience is required, candidates should demonstrate how their training, education, or skills can benefit the United Nations during their internship.

Educational Background:
Candidates are expected to have a strong educational foundation relevant to the role. This includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or the final year of an undergraduate program. Fields of study that are particularly relevant include Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Visualization, or Analytics.
