Job Overview:
The intern position within the Economic Analysis and Policy Division (EAPD) of DESA involves conducting research and providing policy analysis on global macroeconomic trends and issues related to economic and social development. The intern will support the preparation of the World Social Report (WSR) and other outputs, assisting in projects that align with the 2030 Agenda. This role requires collaboration with the Economic Affairs Officer and entails a strong emphasis on research, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement. The intern will be involved in daily activities that support the team's objectives, including research assistance, presentation development, and meeting facilitation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting the team in day-to-day activities; conducting quantitative data analysis; identifying and collecting data from both primary and secondary sources; visualizing data for reports and presentations; assisting in the implementation of capacity-building activities; providing communication support; and facilitating stakeholder meetings as needed. The intern will work closely with the supervisor to ensure that research aligns with the goals of the 2030 Agenda and contributes to the overall mission of the EAPD.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, and experience with large databases and descriptive statistics is desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage. The educational background should ideally be in fields related to economics, social sciences, or other relevant disciplines that align with the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that demonstrates their ability to conduct research and analyze data. Familiarity with economic and social development issues is advantageous, as is any previous experience in research or policy analysis, whether through academic projects or internships.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, is considered an advantage. The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, and proficiency in these languages will enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to the team's work.
