Job Overview: The Financial Analyst position at the World Bank Group involves working within the Finance & Accounting (WFA) Vice Presidency, which is responsible for all aspects of financial reporting and internal control for various entities including IBRD, IDA, and IFC. The role is situated within the Chennai team of the Corporate Reporting and Analysis division, which collaborates with the Washington D.C. team to manage all aspects of financial reporting for IBRD and IDA. This includes preparing quarterly and annual financial statements, conducting management discussions and analyses, overseeing business unit accounting, and managing the monthly closing of ledgers. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of financial dynamics and the ability to assess the impact of market and institutional developments on financial results. The Financial Analyst will also engage in internal control assessments and contribute to the overall financial governance of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Financial Analyst will be responsible for preparing internal and external financial statements and reports for IBRD and IDA, assessing the impact of new accounting and auditing pronouncements, coordinating the monthly closing process for decentralized business units, and preparing financial narratives and variance analyses. The role includes researching and analyzing complex accounting transactions, providing technical guidance, participating in internal control assessments, maintaining capital accounts, responding to management inquiries regarding financial results, supporting projects and initiatives, and testing new system applications. The position requires a proactive approach to ensure high-quality outputs and results within tight deadlines, as well as the ability to multitask and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Chartered Accountant degree and a Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a relevant discipline. A Master’s degree in a related field such as finance, accounting, or taxation is preferred. A minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in similar or complementary roles is required. Candidates should have advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting standards, finance concepts, and business practices, with exposure to US GAAP being a plus. Strong conceptual, analytical, and appraisal skills are essential, along with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is necessary, and knowledge of SAP is advantageous. Candidates should also have a basic understanding of financial instruments and markets, and the ability to work under pressure while delivering high-quality results.
