The incumbent will be responsible for specific project-based tasks that focus on data collection and migration scripts for new arrivals, VolRep operations, and processing data for mobile missions. The role requires a detail-oriented individual with technical skills in data management, who will work closely with the Data Management Associate and the Operational Data Management Officer. The position is integral to ensuring efficient service delivery to persons of concern and involves collaboration with various UNHCR functional units and partners. The Data Management Assistant will also be involved in monitoring tools and supporting data integration processes, which are essential for the effective management of refugee data in Lebanon.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Data Management Assistant include entering data related to asylum seekers, refugees, and persons of concern into the computer database. The incumbent will contribute to the preparation of reports and project documents by providing necessary information, preparing tables, and drafting routine correspondence. They will also be responsible for updating and maintaining existing databases, generating various statistical reports, and assisting in the development of forms for data collection and analysis. The role may require acting as an interpreter for routine information exchanges and translating documents as needed. The Data Management Assistant may undertake field trips to project sites and will be responsible for deciding on the data recorded in the database, resolving incidents, and escalating issues to the supervisor when necessary. Additionally, the incumbent will support the identification and management of risks and ensure decision-making is informed by risk assessments in their area of responsibility.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in electronic data processing, information technology, or a related field. A High School Diploma is required, although a Bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred. Essential qualifications include experience in electronic data processing and information technology, while desirable qualifications include completion of UNHCR learning programs or specific training relevant to the functions of the position. The candidate should possess strong technical skills in data transformation, reporting, and management, particularly with tools such as SQL, SSRS, and Power BI.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a High School Diploma as a minimum educational requirement. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education is preferred. Relevant certifications in electronic data processing and information technology are also beneficial for this position. The educational background should ideally include training or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of data management and analysis within the context of refugee assistance and protection.
Experience: The position requires at least 1 year of relevant experience in electronic data processing or information technology. Candidates should have practical experience working with complex datasets and data management tools, particularly in a humanitarian or refugee context. Experience with UNHCR’s specific tools, such as proGres, BIMS, and RAIS, is highly desirable, as is familiarity with data collection and reporting processes in a similar operational environment.
Languages: Knowledge of English is mandatory, and proficiency in the UN working language of the duty station (Arabic) is also required. For General Service jobs, knowledge of English and/or the UN working language of the duty station is essential. Familiarity with local languages can be an advantage, particularly in enhancing communication with the refugee population and local authorities.
