Job Overview:
The Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) plays a crucial role in the FAO Representation in Lebanon, focusing on the development, coordination, and operational assistance of various programs aimed at improving food and agriculture systems in the country. This position requires a deep understanding of local conditions, culture, and institutions, as well as the ability to liaise effectively with government authorities and other stakeholders. The role involves promoting FAO's image and advocacy efforts, coordinating data collection on agricultural sectors, and participating in the formulation of program proposals. The Assistant FAO Representative will also be responsible for monitoring project implementation and ensuring adherence to operational guidelines, making this position vital for the success of FAO's initiatives in Lebanon.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: liaising with government authorities and local institutions to support FAO's activities; promoting the organization's mandate and maintaining communication tools; coordinating the collection and maintenance of agricultural data; participating in the production of technical and policy studies; identifying and preparing program proposals; monitoring project implementation and proposing corrective measures as needed; training and supervising lower-grade staff; and performing other duties as required. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be nationals of Lebanon and possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as agriculture, agricultural economics, forestry, fisheries, natural resources, rural development, business administration, or international relations. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in programming, planning, and technical cooperation in food and agriculture, as well as project implementation experience in areas related to FAO's activities. Proficiency in English and Arabic is required, with a working knowledge of French being desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as agriculture, agricultural economics, forestry, fisheries, natural resources, rural development, business administration, or international relations. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of food and agriculture systems and for effectively contributing to FAO's mission in Lebanon.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience in either the public or private sectors, specifically related to programming, planning, and technical cooperation in food and agriculture. Experience in project implementation within the context of FAO's activities is also essential. This level of experience ensures that the candidate is well-equipped to handle the responsibilities of the position and contribute to the organization's goals.

Languages:
Proficiency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, with candidates expected to demonstrate a high level of communication skills in both languages. Additionally, a working knowledge of French is considered desirable, which would enhance the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders and contribute to FAO's international initiatives.

Additional Notes:
The Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) will be granted a fixed-term appointment, with the duration determined by the organization. The total length of service shall not exceed ten years, and appointments do not carry any expectation of renewal or conversion to another type of appointment.
