Duties and Responsibilities: The Expert.e Climat National.e will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Coordinating the development of a roadmap, terms of reference, and methodology for updating the CDN 3.
Evaluating the current implementation of CDN 2.0, including mapping national landscapes for climate action.
Organizing national consultations with government representatives, NGOs, and the private sector to address equity, gender, and vulnerable populations.
Analyzing recent demographic trends and socio-economic conditions that impact climate policy.
Defining new mitigation targets for CDN 3.0 and ensuring the integration of Nexus issues related to climate, peace, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, migration, and health.
Conducting public awareness campaigns and disseminating information about government actions and innovations related to climate change.
Preparing and submitting the updated CDN document to the UNFCCC, ensuring compliance with international reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of a Master's degree or equivalent in environmental sciences, climate change, natural resource management, social sciences, or a related field. They should have at least ten years of relevant professional experience in formulating planning documents in environmental and climate change sectors, including NDCs and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). Demonstrated expertise in climate policy assessment, monitoring and evaluation, and the development of national climate strategies is essential. Experience in stakeholder engagement and facilitating participatory workshops, particularly in Africa, is preferred. A deep understanding of Niger's institutional, political, socio-economic, and environmental context is crucial, along with familiarity with national and international climate frameworks.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as environmental sciences, climate change, natural resource management, or social sciences. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of climate policy and environmental management.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of ten years of professional experience in relevant fields, particularly in the formulation of planning documents related to climate change and environmental policies.
