Job Overview:
The Communications Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the UNFPA Country Office (CO) in Serbia by promoting its work and initiatives under the current CPD and preparing for the transition to the new CPD for 2026-203
  • This position involves collaborating closely with the Communications Analyst and the program team to ensure effective communication strategies are implemented. The consultant will be responsible for drafting and editing communication materials, managing social media content, and organizing events to promote UNFPA's goals. The role requires creativity in generating story ideas and campaigns, as well as strong organizational skills to manage logistics for media visits and events. The consultant will also be involved in monitoring and evaluating the impact of communication efforts, ensuring that advocacy materials reach the intended audiences effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Consultant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: supporting the preparation and implementation of the CO communication plan; monitoring and evaluating the dissemination of advocacy materials; drafting, editing, and proof-reading communication materials; preparing background materials for media visits; coordinating logistics for events; producing and editing photos and videos; maintaining collaboration with mass media; updating social media and the UNFPA website; organizing media archives; monitoring mainstream media; maintaining a media events calendar; negotiating and purchasing communication materials; overseeing the production of advocacy materials; representing the CO at events; and assisting in joint initiatives with the UN Communications Group. The consultant will also perform other relevant duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Information, Political Science, or a related field. A Master's degree in a communications-related field is considered a strong asset. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in communications at the national or international level, with a proven record in creating communication materials for various media, video production, and website management. Familiarity with the UNFPA mandate, particularly in areas related to gender-based violence and sexual and reproductive health, is highly desirable. Proficiency in office software applications and digital platforms, as well as experience in graphic design, photography, and videography, is also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a first-level university degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Information, Political Science, or a related field. A Master's degree in a communications-related field is considered a strong asset, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in communications, particularly at the national or international level. This experience should include a proven track record in creating communication materials for various media, managing websites, and producing video content. Prior experience in thematic areas relevant to UNFPA's work, such as women's rights and youth well-being, is advantageous.

Languages:
Excellent command of both English and Serbian is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication capabilities within diverse contexts.

Additional Notes:
The position is expected to involve possible travel to different project sites as required by the job tasks. Official travel will be authorized and arranged according to UNFPA's Duty Travel Policy. The monthly remuneration will be paid in the local currency based on the applicable United Nations exchange rate at the time of payment. Local individual consultants are compensated similarly to UN staff members performing similar duties. It is important to note that individual consultants are not considered UN staff and are responsible for their own income taxes.
