Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Field Security Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the Chief of Mission (COM) in Mexico by providing specialized assistance in security risk management. This position involves establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with various stakeholders, including the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), local authorities, and host government agencies. The Field Security Associate will be responsible for gathering and analyzing security-related information, developing and implementing security plans, and ensuring that all safety measures are effectively communicated and adhered to within the IOM Mexico office. This role requires a proactive approach to security management, including conducting security evaluations, providing training on security awareness, and maintaining an organized filing system for security documents.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Security Associate will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the Chief of Mission in establishing security awareness within IOM Mexico.
  • Maintaining effective relationships with UNDSS and local security authorities to gather up-to-date security information.
  • Assisting in the collection and communication of security situation updates.
  • Conducting thorough gathering and verification of security information for analysis.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of security plans, including contingency and emergency response plans.
  • Assisting in the Security Risk Management (SRM) process and monitoring security measures.
  • Conducting security evaluations and advising on Residential Security Measures (RSM).
  • Managing the Country Office Warden system and ensuring effective communication systems.
  • Reporting security incidents and preparing security reports. 1
  • Organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and orientation for new personnel. 1
  • Maintaining an orderly filing system for security documents and contact databases. 1
  • Implementing security measures and proposing improvements as necessary. 1
  • Assisting in investigations related to security incidents affecting IOM personnel and assets.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Security, Social Sciences, International Studies, Communications, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with four years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a completed High School degree with six years of relevant experience is acceptable. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Relevant professional experience in humanitarian, public, private, or corporate sectors is desirable, particularly in security programs, risk assessments, and operational security management.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a university degree in a relevant field such as Security, Social Sciences, International Studies, or Communications from an accredited academic institution. Candidates with a completed High School degree may also apply if they have significant relevant professional experience. The educational background must be from institutions recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have received quality education that meets international standards.

Experience:
The position requires relevant professional experience in the humanitarian, public, private, or corporate sectors. Candidates should have experience in security programs, risk assessments, operational security management, and investigations. Familiarity with radio communications is also desirable. Successful completion of the UNDSS Field Security Associate (FSA) course is an advantage, indicating that the candidate has received specialized training in security management.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory for this position, both oral and written. Additionally, a working knowledge of any UN official languages or languages identified by the Country Office is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.
