Job Overview:
The position of Individual Contractor at UNHCR Istanbul Field Office involves providing functional and administrative support related to protection case management. The incumbent will engage with various stakeholders, including provincial directorates, NGOs, local governments, and refugee populations, to enhance outreach and community-based protection activities. The role requires the incumbent to manage correspondence, conduct protection interviews, and assist in reporting related to protection activities. The position demands flexibility, as the incumbent will be required to work during day and night shifts, including weekends, in accordance with UNHCR's guidelines. Proficiency in Farsi is essential for translating documents and facilitating discussions, making this role critical in bridging communication gaps within the refugee community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Individual Contractor include:
  • Providing functional support in protection-related case management, including monitoring and reporting.
  • Liaising with various stakeholders, including local authorities and NGOs, to enhance protection activities.
  • Conducting protection interviews and managing correspondence related to protection cases.
  • Translating documents and assisting in focus group discussions, particularly for Farsi-speaking refugees.
  • Submitting reports through established mechanisms, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
  • Preparing timesheets for any night shifts or overtime hours worked.
  • Attending periodic meetings and training sessions to stay updated on relevant policies and procedures.
  • Collaborating with team members to ensure effective implementation of protection activities.
  • Maintaining accountability and communication with supervisors regarding the progress of assigned tasks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of a High School Diploma with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of relevant experience. Core competencies required include accountability, communication, organizational awareness, teamwork, collaboration, commitment to continuous learning, and client orientation. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate analytical thinking, political awareness, and stakeholder management skills. Proficiency in Farsi and English is mandatory, while knowledge of Turkish is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The preferred educational background for this position is in law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">International Law, Political Science, or a related field. A minimum of a High School Diploma is required, with a Bachelor’s degree or higher being advantageous for candidates with less work experience.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience for candidates with a High School Diploma, or 1 year of relevant experience for those with a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Experience in protection case management or related fields is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the operational context of refugee assistance.

Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position are Farsi and English, with an additional knowledge of Turkish being desirable. Proficiency in these languages is crucial for effective communication and support within the refugee community.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration is subject to operational needs and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal beyond the initial contract period. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, including mandatory night shifts and potential work on weekends and official holidays. Leave entitlements include annual leave at the rate of two and a half working days per month and sick leave at the rate of two working days for each month of service. Medical coverage is provided through Cigna Health Insurance, with options available for eligible dependents. The remuneration is based on the G5 level of the International Civil Services Commission (ICSC) salary scale. Non-Turkish candidates must obtain clearance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) before an offer can be made, and applications must be submitted timely through Workday, with valid residence permits attached for non-Turkish nationals.
