Job Overview:
The Principal Banker position at EBRD involves a comprehensive understanding of project development and implementation, including project origination, structuring, execution, and monitoring. The role requires the Principal Banker to act as a senior member of a project team or as an operation leader, particularly on less complex transactions than those handled by an Associate Director or Senior Banker. The Principal Banker is expected to lead project teams effectively, supervise junior banking staff, and contribute to their coaching and mentoring. Additionally, the role encompasses business development, client management, and engaging in policy dialogue, making it a multifaceted position that requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Principal Banker will be responsible for structuring and executing transactions, leading project teams, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with the Bank's standards. They will oversee project due diligence, ensure timely completion of transactions, and maintain high-quality reporting. The role also involves monitoring project portfolios, managing client relationships, and resolving implementation issues. The Principal Banker will contribute to policy dialogue initiatives and assist in business development efforts, including marketing and building market contacts. Furthermore, they will play a key role in recruiting, training, and mentoring junior bankers, ensuring effective workload distribution and professional development within the team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative and numerical skills are essential, along with the ability to interpret financial information and design financial models. Candidates should have credit analysis skills, computer literacy, and excellent stakeholder management, coaching, mentoring, and leadership abilities. Relationship management and negotiation skills are also critical, as well as the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position, with a preference for candidates holding a Master’s degree or equivalent experience in finance, economics, or a related field. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are highly regarded and can enhance a candidate's profile.

Experience:
Significant relevant experience in the financial industry is required, preferably from a development finance institution, investment or commercial bank, private equity firm, asset management firm, or international auditing/financial consulting firm. Candidates should have practical experience in leading complex transactions throughout the project life cycle and possess relevant country experience, including an understanding of local and regional dynamics.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is mandatory, with excellent written and oral communication skills in both languages. A good command of any other local or country language is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
