Job Overview: The Principal Banker is a pivotal role within the EBRD, responsible for overseeing all aspects of project development and implementation. This includes project origination, structuring, execution, and monitoring across various investment instruments. The Principal Banker will serve as a senior member of project teams or as an operation leader, particularly on less complex transactions. The role requires effective leadership of project teams, supervision of junior banking staff, and active participation in business development and client management. The Principal Banker is expected to contribute to policy dialogue and ensure that projects align with the bank's objectives and standards, thereby playing a crucial role in the bank's mission to foster economic growth and development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Principal Banker will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities that include:
Structuring and Execution: Collaborate with senior operation leaders on complex transactions, manage project teams, and ensure compliance with the bank's standards during the due diligence process.
Portfolio Monitoring: Oversee the monitoring of projects, manage client relationships, and ensure high-quality reporting and compliance with donor requirements.
Policy Dialogue: Engage with relevant units within the bank to contribute to policy discussions and support efforts to secure grants and technical cooperation funds.
Business Development: Assist in marketing efforts, build market contacts, and screen project proposals to identify viable investments.
Staff Management: Recruit, train, and mentor junior bankers, ensuring effective workload distribution and professional development. The Principal Banker is also responsible for maintaining high standards of integrity and ethical conduct within the team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative skills are essential, along with the ability to interpret financial information and design financial models. Candidates should have excellent stakeholder management, coaching, mentoring, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Proficiency in English and French is mandatory, with additional local languages considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred, as it provides a deeper understanding of complex financial concepts and practices. Relevant country experience is highly desirable, as it enhances the ability to navigate local market conditions and regulatory environments.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is mandatory for this position, as these languages are essential for effective communication within the bank and with clients. Proficiency in any additional local or country-specific languages is considered a valuable asset, as it can facilitate better engagement with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of project implementation.
