Job Overview: The position of Temporary Research Assistant at the World Bank is designed for individuals who possess strong analytical and research skills. Duties and Responsibilities: The selected candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the Chief Economist Office's analytical work. Key responsibilities include: assisting with data collection and analysis, revising literature, developing econometric estimates, programming macroeconomic models, and preparing background notes for regional studies. The candidate will also be tasked with identifying, compiling, and organizing databases relevant to the study of economic topics. Conducting econometric analysis, particularly time series analysis, will be essential to clarify points in presentations. Additionally, the candidate will review academic literature on topics related to developing countries, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, and program dynamic stochastic general equilibrium models to simulate labor markets and assess public policy effectiveness. The role may also involve providing quality enhancement comments and contributing to more research-oriented studies conducted by the Macro Team of the Office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Economics and demonstrate a strong quantitative background in the field. A minimum of one year of experience in applied research at a recognized university, research center, or multilateral organization is required. Proficiency in statistical and modeling programs such as Stata, Matlab, Julia, or Python is essential. Strong research and analytical skills, with a proven ability to deliver high-quality analytical work, will be a distinct advantage. Candidates should have direct experience in at least one of the following areas: fiscal policy, labor economics, or recursive programming. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are mandatory, while a good command of Spanish or Portuguese is desirable. Initiative in research and the ability to collaborate effectively in research teams are also important.
