Job Overview:
The Head of the Spanish Language Service is a pivotal role within the IAEA's Language Services Section, responsible for overseeing the quality and timely delivery of Spanish language content. This position involves revising, drafting, editing, and translating a variety of documents, including administrative, legal, economic, scientific, and technical materials. The incumbent will lead a team of professional staff and freelancers, ensuring that all outputs meet the high standards expected by the IAEA. The role requires a deep understanding of the Agency's activities and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines. The Head will also be responsible for identifying and training new talent within the team, thereby fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in language services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan and coordinate the work of the Spanish Language Service team, ensuring effective collaboration among team members.
  • Revise and edit content produced by staff and freelancers, ensuring accuracy and adherence to IAEA standards.
  • Draft, translate, and edit documents as required, maintaining high quality in all outputs.
  • Make authoritative decisions regarding terminology and language use, assessing the competence of team members.
  • Provide training and guidance to the Spanish Language Service team and contribute to the training of the Multilingual Output Production Team.
  • Implement innovative solutions and best practices in the production of Spanish language content.
  • Monitor team performance and ensure deadlines are met while maintaining quality standards.
  • Collaborate with other language teams and departments to facilitate effective communication and information sharing.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced university degree (master's) in translation, languages, or a related field. A bachelor's degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in translation, with at least four years in an international organization or equivalent.
  • Experience in supervising teams of translators is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and IT translation tools, particularly Trados Studio and MultiTerm.
  • Excellent oral and written command of both English and Spanish, with knowledge of other IAEA official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, and Russian) being an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's) in translation, languages, or a related field. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in the field of translation. Candidates should have at least four years of experience working in an international organization, public sector, or non-profit organization. Experience in managing and supervising teams of translators is highly desirable, as it demonstrates the ability to lead and mentor others in a professional setting.

Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position are English and Spanish, with an excellent command required in both oral and written forms. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, and Russian, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $101,540, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Additional benefits include a variable post adjustment, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses, six weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan, and health insurance.
