Job Overview:
The Green Energy Civil / Structural Engineering Internship at UNDP's Unit of Information Technology and Management (ITM) in Copenhagen offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the field of renewable energy and sustainable development. Interns will be involved in various projects that support UNDP Country Offices worldwide, focusing on ICT and Green Energy solutions. The internship is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical industry experience, allowing interns to contribute to global development efforts. Interns will work in a dynamic and informal atmosphere, collaborating with a diverse team and establishing connections with other talented interns and UN staff. The internship lasts for three months, from November 3, 2025, to January 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension, and provides a platform for interns to become socially responsible and innovative leaders in the field of green energy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will actively participate in the collection of data and information related to green energy solutions in Country Offices. They will support the assessment of civil works and structures related to renewable energy installations and assist in drafting business cases for renewable energy solutions, primarily focusing on hybrid solar PV systems, energy efficiency, and e-mobility. Interns will provide guidance and remote technical assistance on energy efficiency solutions to Country Offices and assist in the installation of IoT energy sensors for assigned projects. They will also support the procurement of green energy solution equipment, including conducting market research, compiling solicitation documents, and evaluating technical proposals from bidders. Daily monitoring and operations of installed solar PV and e-mobility systems will be part of their responsibilities, along with serving as rapporteurs in internal and external meetings as assigned. Additionally, interns will contribute to the unit's documentation to support continuous improvement of processes and procedures and assist project managers in the remote management of renewable energy solution installations worldwide.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (such as a master’s program or higher), be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent), have recently graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within one year of graduation, or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program. Experience or knowledge in renewable energy and civil or structural engineering is required, along with technical knowledge of structural analysis for foundation design and steel structures, which is a strong advantage. Familiarity with renewable energy technologies, structural design software, and experience in sizing hybrid PV systems is also beneficial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is required, and knowledge of Office 365 tools and SharePoint is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field such as renewable energy, civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related discipline. The internship is particularly suited for students who are looking to enhance their academic experience with practical, real-world applications in the field of green energy and sustainability.

Experience:
Interns are expected to have some level of experience or knowledge in renewable energy and civil or structural engineering. This could include academic projects, internships, or relevant coursework that demonstrates their understanding of the field and its applications. Experience in working with renewable energy technologies and familiarity with project management or technical assistance roles will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of any other UN languages is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication in the diverse international environment of UNDP.

Additional Notes:
The internship is a full-time position lasting three months, with a possibility for extension. Interns will receive a monthly stipend to help cover basic daily expenses, such as meals and transportation. The stipend amount varies depending on the duty location, with a monthly in-person stipend rate of USD 1,000 for those not financially supported by any institution. Interns are responsible for securing their own medical insurance and must provide proof of good health before starting the internship. Additionally, interns must arrange their own travel and accommodation and are not eligible to apply for any posts within UNDP during the internship period.
