Job Overview: The position involves supporting and facilitating the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) process, specifically related to climate change mitigation in the Waste Sector under the direct supervision of the National TNA Coordinator. The contractor will provide technical services for assessing technological needs for climate change mitigation in Venezuela, delivering key outputs such as a portfolio of climate technologies for the Waste Sector, a Technology Needs Assessment report detailing prioritized technologies for adaptation and mitigation, and an analysis of barriers and enabling frameworks for the deployment of these technologies. The contractor will also be responsible for organizing stakeholder consultations and workshops, identifying and prioritizing technologies through participatory processes, and preparing various reports and action plans in collaboration with stakeholders. This role is critical in guiding the country towards achieving its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Duties and Responsibilities: The contractor will be responsible for a comprehensive set of tasks including: organizing consultative meetings and workshops with stakeholders, identifying and prioritizing technologies for the Waste Sector through participatory processes, conducting market assessments to understand barriers to technology implementation, preparing and finalizing the TNA, barrier analysis, and technology action plan reports, and providing necessary inputs as requested by the TNA Coordinator and UNEP Climate Centre. The contractor will also ensure that best practices and methodologies are utilized throughout the process, and will be expected to deliver a series of reports and action plans that summarize the findings and recommendations for technology deployment in the Waste Sector.
Required Qualifications: The contractor must possess at least a postgraduate degree in environmental management or related fields. A strong background in waste management, including collection, treatment, disposal, and recycling policies in Venezuela, is essential. The contractor should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in the Waste Sector or related fields, with practical experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation in developing countries, ideally in Venezuela and the Latin America and Caribbean region. Experience in research analysis and project management is also required, and prior experience with a national climate agency or organization is desirable.
Educational Background: A postgraduate degree in environmental management or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background should provide the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to effectively assess and implement climate technologies in the Waste Sector.
Experience: The position requires at least 5 years of practical experience in the Waste Sector or related fields. This experience should include work related to climate change adaptation and mitigation, particularly in developing countries. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing projects and conducting research relevant to climate technologies and waste management.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is required for this position. Additionally, a high level of proficiency in English is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication and collaboration with international stakeholders and resources.
Additional Notes: The position is part-time and involves working closely with the UNEP Climate Centre. The contractor will report to the General Directorate of Climate Change Monitoring.
