Job Overview: The position involves supporting and facilitating the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) process for climate change mitigation in the Energy Sector under the direct supervision of the National TNA Coordinator. The contractor will provide technical services for assessing technological needs for climate change mitigation in Venezuela, delivering results such as a portfolio of climate technologies for the Energy sector, a TNA report detailing prioritized technologies, and an analysis of barriers and enabling frameworks for technology deployment. The contractor will also be responsible for organizing stakeholder consultations and workshops, identifying and prioritizing technologies through participatory processes, and preparing various reports and documents related to the TNA process.
Duties and Responsibilities: The contractor will be responsible for organizing consultative meetings with stakeholders, identifying and prioritizing technologies for the Energy sector, leading analysis processes with stakeholders on how prioritized technologies can be implemented, and preparing and finalizing reports on TNA, barrier analysis, and technology action plans. The contractor will also need to provide any additional inputs required by the TNA Coordinator and utilize best practices and methodologies from UNEP's Climate Centre in Copenhagen. Specific tasks include identifying priority technologies, preparing reports, conducting barrier analyses, and developing technology action plans, all while ensuring stakeholder engagement and adherence to project guidelines.
Required Qualifications: The contractor must hold at least a postgraduate degree in environmental management or related fields. They should have experience in alternative energies, renewable energy, and energy policies in Venezuela. A minimum of 5 years of work experience in the Energy Sector or related fields is required, along with practical experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation in developing countries, ideally in Venezuela and the Latin America and Caribbean region. Experience in a national climate agency or organization is desirable.
Educational Background: A postgraduate degree in environmental management or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the contractor has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to the TNA process and the overall objectives of the UNEP.
Experience: The position requires at least 5 years of relevant work experience in the Energy Sector or related fields. This experience should include practical involvement in climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts, particularly in developing countries. Familiarity with the specific context of Venezuela and the Latin American region is highly advantageous, as it will enable the contractor to navigate local challenges and opportunities effectively.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is required for this position. Additionally, a strong command of English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and access to relevant resources and documentation.
