Job Overview: The position of National Consultant for Math Discipline at Pre-Service Teacher Training involves supporting the Ministry of Education and Science in Tajikistan in revising the teaching methodology course for pre-service teacher training in the Math discipline. The consultant will work to incorporate Competency-Based Education (CBE) pedagogy and integrate digital and inclusive strategies to ensure the course remains relevant to the country's educational context and the needs of teachers. This role is crucial in enhancing the quality of teacher education and ultimately improving student learning outcomes. The consultant will evaluate the current syllabus, engage with national education stakeholders, and facilitate the design and revision of the teaching methodology course, ensuring it aligns with CBE principles and addresses the diverse needs of teachers and students.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for evaluating the current Math discipline course syllabus to identify strengths and gaps for embedding CBE pedagogy. This includes conducting consultations with faculty members and education authorities, facilitating the design and revision of the teaching methodology course, and providing capacity-building activities for university faculty. The consultant will also review the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework to suggest tools for ongoing evaluation of the course effectiveness. The revised course should be available in digital format and include updated course objectives, topics, and assessment methods that incorporate active learning and inclusive pedagogy. Additionally, the consultant will support the revision of syllabi, lesson plans, teaching guides, and multimedia resources.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in education, pedagogy, or a related field with a focus on teacher preparation and professional development in Mathematics. They should have strong knowledge and skills in education policy reform, particularly in teacher education and pedagogy design based on CBE principles. Familiarity with local and international best practices in teaching methods that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and inclusiveness is essential. Experience working with higher education institutions or teacher training programs is also required.
Educational Background: A university degree in fields related to education, pedagogy, system reform, or another relevant area is required. The focus should be on teacher preparation and professional development related to Mathematics, competency-based education, and the use of technology in education.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 8 years of relevant professional experience in the field of education, particularly in system reform focused on CBE teacher preparation and professional development. Previous experience in current education reform initiatives is highly desirable, demonstrating a strong understanding of the educational landscape and reform processes.
Languages: Proficiency in Tajik and Russian is mandatory, while knowledge of English is considered an asset. This linguistic capability is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and for the successful execution of the consultancy tasks.
