The Regional Office for West Asia specifically focuses on delivering advisory services and capacity-building support to countries in the region to achieve their environmental and sustainable development objectives. This consultancy is part of four significant projects in Kuwait, each aimed at addressing critical environmental challenges and aligning with Kuwait's Vision 2040 and global sustainability targets.

Job Overview:
The position of International Consultant for Project Management and Coordination involves overseeing the implementation of four key environmental projects in Kuwait, which are crucial for addressing various environmental challenges faced by the country. The consultant will be responsible for facilitating effective communication and coordination among stakeholders, organizing capacity-building events, and ensuring that project objectives are met in alignment with the approved work plans. The consultant will work closely with the Kuwait Environment Public Authority (KEPA) and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that the projects are executed efficiently and effectively. The role requires a proactive approach to project management, with a focus on knowledge sharing, continuous education, and awareness-raising among all users involved in the projects. The consultant will report directly to the Regional Coordinator managing the projects, Mr. Miraq Al Jubouri, and will play a vital role in ensuring the success of these initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will carry out a variety of duties and responsibilities under the direct supervision of the designated Programme Management Officer at UNEP ROWA. These include supporting the project manager in implementing the projects according to the approved work plans, liaising with focal ministries and stakeholders, enabling effective coordination and communication among all parties involved, organizing logistics for UNEP staff missions and stakeholder consultations, maintaining records of project outputs, updating project milestone dashboards, monitoring project risks, and preparing detailed progress reports. The consultant will also coordinate capacity-building activities and stakeholder engagement events, ensuring that all projects are aligned with their respective objectives and that stakeholder inputs are effectively integrated into the project frameworks. Deliverables will include monthly progress reports, quarterly project steering committee meeting reports, capacity-building plans, baseline assessment reports, and outline frameworks for the strategies of each project.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires an advanced degree (master’s or higher) in project management, environmental sciences, natural resources management, environmental databases, environmental information systems, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in project management, environmental sciences, environmental data management, or system coordination is essential. Previous experience in report conception is required, along with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. The ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple tasks is also necessary.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree, such as a master's degree or higher, in a relevant field such as project management, environmental sciences, or natural resources management. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of environmental projects and for effectively managing the associated tasks and responsibilities.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of work experience related to project management, environmental sciences, or environmental data management. This experience should include a proven track record of managing projects, coordinating with various stakeholders, and delivering results in a timely manner. Familiarity with the environmental context of the West Asia region is desirable, as it will enhance the consultant's ability to navigate the specific challenges and opportunities present in Kuwait.

Languages:
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and for the successful implementation of the projects, as it ensures that all parties can engage in discussions and consultations without language barriers.

The consultancy is expected to last for a duration of 6 months, during which the consultant will be engaged in full-time work on the projects.
