Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
United for Efficiency (U4E) is a global initiative that was launched in 2015 with the mission to assist developing and emerging markets in transitioning to energy-efficient technologies. The organization focuses on various energy-efficient appliances such as lighting, air conditioners, refrigerators, electric motors, transformers, and data centers. U4E aims to create a well-designed set of policies that can facilitate the transformation of these markets, allowing them to leapfrog outdated technologies and adopt superior, cost-effective alternatives. U4E operates in multiple countries and has a diverse portfolio of activities aimed at promoting energy efficiency worldwide.

Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in coordinating and facilitating engagements with broader Asian stakeholders. The primary objective is to strengthen partnerships with key government agencies, industry representatives, and technical experts. The consultant will enhance knowledge exchange regarding China’s energy efficiency practices with both public and private sector stakeholders. Additionally, the consultant will be responsible for developing briefings and technical notes to support outreach activities for high-level events such as the Climate COP and Montreal Protocol meetings. The role also includes supporting the implementation and monitoring of U4E's cooling and data center activities, as well as organizing and leading meetings, workshops, and follow-ups. This position is remote but will require close collaboration with stakeholders in Asia, particularly in China.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including:
  • Stakeholder Mapping and Briefings: Identify and map relevant stakeholders in Asia, including government bodies, industry groups, and technical experts. Develop briefings based on U4E's existing tools and resources related to data centers and cooling technologies.
  • Meeting Coordination: Organize, schedule, and coordinate meetings, workshops, and consultations with stakeholders. This involves preparing agendas, background materials, and taking meeting minutes.
  • Communication and Follow-up: Act as a liaison between U4E and Asian stakeholders, ensuring timely communication, follow-ups, and tracking of action items.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular updates and reports on stakeholder engagement activities, highlighting key outcomes, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Support in Event Planning: Assist in the planning and execution of events related to U4E cooling and data center initiatives. The consultant will report to U4E while closely collaborating with key stakeholders in China.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires several qualifications, including:
  • A Bachelor's degree in energy management, environmental science, international relations, or a related field.
  • Basic familiarity with energy policies and appliance technologies in Asia, with an understanding of cooling technologies and data center cooling needs considered an asset.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience, which may include relevant internship experience, in project management, preferably related to energy policies and international development programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly on energy or environmental topics.
  • Knowledge of project management concepts.
  • Experience in developing and building coalitions to support existing activities and proposals for new initiatives in China.
  • A proven record of collaborating with a team and the ability to adapt to varying project needs as they evolve.
  • Experience in facilitating meetings with government stakeholders and industry representatives.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as energy management, environmental science, or international relations. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of energy policies and the technologies involved in energy efficiency.

Experience:
The position requires at least 1 year of professional experience, which can include relevant internships. This experience should ideally be in project management, particularly in areas related to energy policies and international development programs. The consultant should have a track record of working collaboratively with teams and stakeholders, particularly in the context of energy efficiency initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Chinese is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with stakeholders in Asia, particularly in China, where the consultant will be engaging with various government agencies and industry representatives.

Additional Notes:
The position is remote and expected to last for a duration of 7 months. There are no fees associated with the recruitment process, as the United Nations does not charge applicants at any stage, including application, interview, or training. This ensures that the recruitment process is transparent and accessible to all candidates.
