Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, within the Statistics, Data Science, and Survey Section of the Global Data Service (GDS). The intern will work closely with the Secretariat of the Expert Group on Refugee, IDP and Statelessness Statistics (EGRISS), which is a collaborative effort involving 61 countries and 38 international and regional organizations. The role involves supporting the EGRISS Secretariat in various activities, particularly focusing on the revision and implementation of the EGRISS Global Annual Inclusion (GAIN) survey. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in survey design, data collection, analysis, and reporting, contributing to the overall mission of improving statistical practices related to refugees and displaced persons.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support EGRISS monitoring & evaluation activities, including updates and implementation of the GAIN survey: - Assist in updating the GAIN survey questionnaire based on evaluation feedback, including translation and protocol updates. - Help implement the survey schedule and logistics plan. - Identify additional focal points from national statistical systems for the 2025 survey. - Participate in pre-survey briefings with institutional respondents. - Conduct the GAIN 2025 survey according to updated methodologies. - Assist with data collection and validation to ensure accuracy. - Analyze data using statistical techniques and prepare results for reporting. - Update dissemination tools like dashboards and infographics. - Document lessons learned and prepare an annual archive of implemented documents.
  • Support other EGRISS activities, including the Annual Report and research related to methodological papers.
  • Organize and coordinate meetings, documenting decisions and actions.
  • Assist in the effective implementation of EGRISS Secretariat responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be either recent graduates or current students in a graduate/undergraduate program from an accredited university. They should have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field. Candidates must not have exhausted the maximum cumulative internship period with UNHCR. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate fluency in English, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a keen interest in humanitarian or development action related to forced displacement.

Educational Background:
A university degree (BA) in a relevant field such as Statistics, Demography, Public Policy, Economics, International Relations, or Social Science is preferred. Candidates should have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant area to be eligible for the internship.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have displayed an interest in official statistics and operational data from various sources. Experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R, Python) and data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau) is highly desirable. Candidates should also have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of another UN language such as French, Spanish, Russian, or Arabic is considered an asset and is desirable for the position.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time internship role with working hours from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, totaling 40 hours per week. The internship duration is six months, with a possible two-month extension. Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to help cover living expenses. UNHCR will reimburse travel costs for interns coming from outside the country of the duty station. Candidates are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and health insurance.
