Job Overview: The UN Volunteers program is facilitating the implementation of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY 2026) in Latin America and the Caribbean. This role involves providing guidance to Member States and other stakeholders in the region. The position requires Online Volunteers who are interested in contributing by translating essential documents, PowerPoint presentations, and other key materials into Spanish, Portuguese, English, and French. The primary focus will be on translating documents related to the IVY 2026 initiative, which aims to enhance the role of volunteers in sustainable development efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online VolunteerTranslator will support the Regional Coordinator for the IVY 2026 initiative by translating various documents from English to Portuguese and vice versa. Specific tasks include translating a 2-page Roadmap for country-level implementation, 10 slides of Introductory Slides for UN Entities, 10 slides of Introductory Slides for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), academia, and the private sector, and a 5-page Newsletter. The translator will ensure that the translations are accurate, culturally appropriate, and convey the intended message effectively. Additionally, the volunteer may be required to collaborate with other team members to ensure consistency in terminology and style across all translated materials.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong translation skills, particularly in English and Portuguese, with a deep understanding of both languages' nuances. Experience in translating documents related to development, volunteerism, or similar fields is highly desirable. The ability to work independently and meet deadlines is essential. Familiarity with UN terminology and processes will be an advantage. Volunteers should also demonstrate a commitment to the values of the United Nations and the principles of volunteerism.
Educational Background: A background in languages, translation, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have formal training or education in translation or linguistics, which will enhance their ability to perform the required tasks effectively. A degree or certification in a relevant area will be considered an asset.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have prior experience in translation, particularly in a volunteer or non-profit context. Experience working with international organizations or on development projects will be beneficial. Candidates should have a proven track record of delivering high-quality translations under tight deadlines, showcasing their ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
