Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in implementing the Global Environment Fund-funded ‘Net-Zero Nature-Positive Accelerator Global Platform’ project. This initiative aims to assist participating countries in accelerating their transition towards net-zero nature-positive economies by catalyzing finance and partnerships, triggering investments, promoting policy coherence, and sharing best practices. The consultant's work will directly contribute to UNEP’s broader programs focused on climate, nature, science, policy, and economic transformation. The position requires a deep understanding of environmental economics and the ability to coordinate complex projects involving multiple stakeholders. The consultant will be expected to facilitate working groups, develop guidance materials, and organize capacity-building workshops, ensuring that participating countries can effectively implement their national projects under the NZNPA framework.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the NZNP planning and modeling working group. Key duties include coordinating the working group, developing comprehensive coordination plans, and organizing annual meetings. The consultant will also draft guidance materials on NZNP planning and modeling, ensuring that these documents meet UNEP's publication standards. Additionally, the consultant will facilitate two peer-to-peer capacity-building workshops, preparing materials and summarizing key outcomes. The role requires strong project management skills, the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, and a commitment to promoting sustainable development through effective environmental policies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess at least seven years of work experience, with a minimum of three years specifically related to macro-economic analysis. Extensive experience in environmental economics is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in applying sectoral and macroeconomic models for policy analysis and decision-making. Proven experience with international funding agencies and a focus on economic development or financial policy is advantageous. Additionally, expertise in advising on low-carbon development strategies at both sectoral and national levels is preferred.
Educational Background: A relevant advanced degree in economics, environmental science, or a related field is required. Candidates with specialized training in environmental economics or sustainable development will be given preference. A strong academic background that includes coursework in macroeconomics, environmental policy, and sustainable development practices is essential for this role.
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically at least seven years in relevant fields, with a focus on macro-economic analysis and environmental economics. Candidates should have a proven track record of working on projects that involve international funding agencies and demonstrate a strong understanding of economic development and financial policy. Languages: Fluency in both oral and written English is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
