Job Overview:
The Assistant Emergency Preparedness Officer will play a crucial role in the Emergency Preparedness Unit under the Division of Emergency, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security and Supply (DESS). This position is designed for a dynamic and proactive individual who possesses excellent drafting skills and a strong understanding of emergency preparedness. The officer will be responsible for conducting global horizon scans, producing emergency outlooks, and participating in early warning discussions. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including Regional Bureaux and Country Offices, to enhance their emergency preparedness capacity in line with UNHCR’s policies. The officer will also contribute to the development of training materials and support capacity development activities, ensuring that UNHCR is well-prepared for refugee and IDP emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Emergency Preparedness Officer include: conducting regular global horizon scans and producing emergency outlooks and reports; participating in IASC Early Warning, Early Action and Readiness (EWEAR) calls; contributing to climatic early warning initiatives; supporting the roll-out of Preparedness Guidance; updating entries in UNHCR's Emergency Handbook; maintaining a weekly calendar of emergency-related events; coordinating meetings with Regional Bureaux and country operations; preparing analytical materials and reports; facilitating capacity development activities; and monitoring emergency processes and relevant reports.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include a university degree at the advanced level in Political Science, International Relations, Conflict Analysis, or other relevant fields. Candidates must have a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience in humanitarian agencies, with essential experience in handling complex datasets and maintaining discretion. Proven research skills in conflict analysis and experience in presenting analysis through visualizations are also required. For P1 level, candidates must have 1 year of relevant experience with an undergraduate degree, or no experience with a graduate or doctorate degree.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree at the advanced level in fields such as Political Science, International Relations, or Conflict Analysis. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of emergency preparedness and response in humanitarian contexts.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience in humanitarian agencies. Candidates with an undergraduate degree must have at least 1 year of experience, while those with a graduate or doctorate degree do not require prior experience. Experience in handling complex datasets and conducting conflict analysis is essential for success in this role.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English, with excellent drafting skills required. Knowledge of other UN working languages is considered a plus, particularly French, which is desirable for effective communication within the UN system.
