Job Overview: The UNGA Coordinating Officer will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF's strategic advocacy, partnership, and resource mobilization goals during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80). This position involves planning, coordination, and execution of UNICEF's institutional engagement throughout the high-level week from September 23 to September 29, 2025, and the broader UNGA80 period. The officer will manage workflows, track engagement requests, coordinate internal inputs, and ensure timely follow-up and documentation in accordance with established UNGA protocols. This role is essential for ensuring that UNICEF's activities during UNGA are efficient and coherent, aligning with the organization's strategic priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UNGA Coordinating Officer will be responsible for several key areas:
Planning and Coordination: Support the coordination and tracking of all UNICEF-hosted events, external invitations, and bilateral meeting requests during the UNGA execution phase (July–September). Ensure alignment with institutional criteria and strategic priorities. Liaise with focal points across UNICEF divisions, regional offices, and the Office of the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director (OED) to consolidate requests and follow-up documentation. Assist in organizing and facilitating regular coordination meetings, including preparation of agendas, note-taking, and follow-up actions.
Workflow and Documentation Management: Ensure compliance with workflows outlined in the UNGA guidance note. Support timely submission and review of concept notes, briefing materials, and talking points, ensuring quality control and adherence to official UNGA templates. Maintain a centralized tracking system for all requests, including real-time updates to the institutional calendar and status of submissions.
Logistical and Operational Support: Coordinate logistical arrangements for events hosted by PPD or in collaboration with partners, including room bookings, AV support, RSVPs, and materials preparation. Support planning and execution of events or meetings involving high-level participation, including Heads of State, UN principals, donors, and key partners. Serve as a liaison with the Communications and Advocacy Division, the Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division, and relevant UNICEF teams to ensure integrated messaging and visibility.
During High-Level Week: Provide real-time coordination support for the PPD UNGA Coordinator and OED counterparts, including tracking last-minute requests and updates. Support the deployment of the PPD UNGA mobilization model, including after-hours availability and rapid coordination across divisions. Assist with real-time documentation needs, protocol matters, and strategic troubleshooting during the week.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this position, candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in international relations, political science, communications, international development, or another relevant technical field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in areas such as public affairs, programme management, resource mobilization, or external relations is required. Candidates must demonstrate fluency in English, and knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates must have an advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in a relevant field such as international relations, political science, communications, or international development. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of international advocacy and coordination within the context of the United Nations.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience. This experience should be in areas such as public affairs, programme management, resource mobilization, or external relations. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of managing complex workflows and coordinating high-level events, particularly in an international or UN context.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.
