Job Overview: The Technical Support Officer position at WFP is designed to provide specialized support and analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">technical analysis related to food assistance policies and programs. The role involves a significant amount of collaboration and communication with partners to facilitate the delivery of assistance and to strengthen the capacity of local staff and government entities in the technical aspects of food security and assistance programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical support and assistance in the development and implementation of various processes and activities within the specific area of work, ensuring alignment with broader program policies and guidelines.
Offer specialized support for project management of specific programs to ensure that activities are carried out in accordance with established goals and WFP policies and procedures.
Prepare a series of reports and data analyses related to food assistance needs, resource utilization, program progress, and achievements, highlighting trends and issues while ensuring that measurable results adhere to institutional standards and quality control.
Ensure timely and accurate data recording within the technical area of activity, maintaining consistency in the information presented to stakeholders.
Maintain contact with internal counterparts to sustain collaboration, implementation, and effective monitoring of ongoing project activities.
Coordinate and communicate with partners, agencies, NGOs, and local public institutions to conduct thorough analyses of food security situations and ensure efficient delivery of food assistance.
Support the capacity building of WFP staff, cooperating partners, and national government in the specific technical area of responsibility.
Serve as a point of contact for resolving a range of inquiries and operational issues within a specific technical area of responsibility.
Supervise and/or review the work of other support staff, providing practical advice and guidance to contribute to achieving objectives in accordance with agreed standards and timelines. 1
Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure that WFP is ready to respond quickly and deploy necessary resources to affected areas at the onset of a crisis. 1
Conduct vulnerability assessments to ensure consistency in methods and quality of RAM products. 1
Develop technical materials on food security and vulnerability based on the analysis and interpretation of primary and secondary information. 1
Participate in inter-agency initiatives through involvement in all food security coordination mechanisms (donors, agencies, partners, government). 1
Support and update the targeting strategy in the country office, profiling livelihoods and other vulnerabilities in conjunction with programs. 1
Lead inter-agency coordination spaces related to food security and provide advice on integrated phase classification. 1
Work with a diverse range of individuals, gathering feedback as appropriate to assist in providing operational support to staff.
Required Qualifications: Education: Completion of secondary education is required. A bachelor's degree in international affairs, economics, nutrition/health, food security, geography, or another field related to development assistance is desirable. Experience: At least six years of experience working with technical teams (e.g., nutrition, vulnerability analysis and mapping (VAM), etc.). Experience in contributing to program implementation and assisting in policy discussions or organizing them is essential. Competencies: Proficiency in MS Office applications. Knowledge of the program cycle and food assistance. Extensive knowledge in areas of specialization (e.g., geo-referencing, vulnerability studies, technical material development). Familiarity with government policies is also required. Skills: Ability to communicate tactfully and courteously in a multicultural environment. Capacity to identify data discrepancies and resolve issues requiring attention.
Educational Background: The position requires the completion of secondary education, with a preference for candidates who have completed a bachelor's degree in fields related to international affairs, economics, nutrition/health, food security, geography, or other relevant areas related to development assistance. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of food security and the various factors that influence it.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of six years of relevant work experience, particularly in roles that involve collaboration with technical teams focused on nutrition, vulnerability analysis, and mapping. Experience in program implementation and participation in policy discussions is also necessary, as it demonstrates the candidate's ability to engage with various stakeholders and contribute to the development of effective food assistance strategies.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written Spanish (level C) is mandatory, along with working knowledge of English (level B). Proficiency in these languages is crucial for effective communication within the organization and with external partners, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged in the food assistance programs.
