Job Overview: The internship is designed to provide practical experience in the field of sustainable consumption and production, specifically under the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP). This global commitment involves collaboration among 193 United Nations Member States to promote sustainable practices across both developing and developed nations. The intern will work closely with the 10YFP Secretariat team, contributing to various projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainable lifestyles and green skills. The role is full-time, requiring the intern to work five days a week (35 hours) under the supervision of the 10YFP programme officer. The internship is unpaid and has a flexible structure, allowing for adjustments based on the intern's needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a range of responsibilities, including:
Supporting member states in reporting on SDG12.1 Indicator progress by collecting and compiling sustainable consumption and production (SCP) policy instruments from various countries and regions, and assisting in the completion and uploading of submission forms.
Contributing to the implementation of the Skills & Lifestyles Area of Excellence of the 10YFP Secretariat, which involves conducting literature reviews and research on provisioning systems in high-impact sectors.
Assisting in the preparation of concept notes, agendas, speaking points, and presentations to facilitate the successful organization of webinars and events that promote sustainable lifestyles and green skills.
Updating and improving the information related to Skills & Lifestyles on the OPN website and contributing to the implementation of the social media outreach strategy.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree, or enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. Preferred fields of study include Sustainable Development, Environmental Studies, Integrated Policy Planning, Business Management, or related disciplines. Additionally, candidates should be proficient in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A strong interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance and understanding of differing opinions.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a bachelor's degree program or being enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program. Alternatively, candidates may have already completed their bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. programs.
