Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located in the Digital Strategy Section of the Communication Division of UNEP at the Nairobi Duty Station. This section is responsible for various digital communications activities, including social media management, web content creation, internal communications, and the management of the library/knowledge repository units. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting these activities by assisting with the preparation and production of online content, conducting research, and contributing to the overall digital strategy planning and execution. The intern will work under the guidance of experienced professionals and will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the workings of a major international organization while enhancing their skills in digital communications and strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Researching, compiling, drafting, and editing basic information for online content production, often under tight deadlines.
  • Reviewing existing content to identify necessary edits and ensuring alignment with agreed strategies.
  • Advising on reporting activities, analytics, and the creation of dashboards, such as PowerBI.
  • Attending meetings as an observer and managing meeting agendas.
  • Drafting meeting notes and creating presentations and training curricula.
  • Carrying out research tasks and providing inputs into digital strategy planning and activities.
  • Assisting with special projects as assigned by supervisors. This role requires a proactive approach and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Preferred areas of study include Communications, Information Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fields. No prior working experience is required, but a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school programme or being in the final academic year of a first university degree programme. The preferred fields of study are Communications, Information Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related disciplines. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the digital strategy and communications tasks that the intern will be involved in.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship position. However, applicants should have a relevant field of study that aligns with the internship's focus on digital strategy and communications. This allows interns to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting and gain valuable experience in a professional environment.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
