Job Overview:
The Practice Manager for Digital Transformation at the World Bank Group will play a pivotal role in advancing digital initiatives across client countries in the Eastern and Southern Africa region. This position involves overseeing a team of professionals based in various locations, including Washington DC, and requires collaboration with Global Practice Managers and Country Directors to implement digital transformation strategies effectively. The Practice Manager will be responsible for mobilizing expertise, managing strategic partnerships, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based solutions to clients. The role demands a strong focus on innovation, talent management, and knowledge sharing to enhance the digital capabilities of client countries, thereby contributing to the broader goals of the World Bank Group in promoting sustainable development and economic growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Practice Manager will be tasked with a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Leading a team to deliver strategic priorities and manage the quality of work programs and deliverables, ensuring alignment with the objectives of the Digital Transformation Vertical.
  • Building and maintaining a balanced portfolio of innovative and cost-effective digital products and services tailored to the needs of clients.
  • Collaborating with other Practice Managers and Global Practices to develop tailored digital solutions for complex development challenges.
  • Establishing and nurturing partnerships with bilateral donors, private sector entities, and academic institutions to enhance the impact of digital initiatives.
  • Driving talent management within the team, fostering an environment of learning and innovation, and mentoring staff to ensure their professional growth.
  • Contributing to knowledge management by responding to regional and global challenges in digital transformation and ensuring the Vertical remains at the forefront of the development dialogue.
  • Managing resources effectively within budget constraints and ensuring compliance with internal controls and policies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Practice Manager position must possess a Master's or PhD degree in relevant fields such as digital technology, public policy, economics, or law. Additionally, a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in progressively responsible roles is required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent technical and leadership skills in multi-lateral development bank operations, with a proven track record in managing multicultural teams and engaging with clients effectively. Strong partnership experience and the ability to influence policy dialogue on digital infrastructure are essential. Candidates should also exhibit strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to fostering collaborative alliances for impactful results.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes advanced degrees such as a Master's or PhD in fields related to digital technology, public policy, economics, or law. This academic foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of digital transformation and its implications for development.

Experience:
