Job Overview:
The Programme Management Officer position is situated within the Knowledge and Innovation Branch of UN-Habitat. The incumbent will play a crucial role in monitoring and evaluating the substantive aspects of the New Urban Agenda across different regions and countries. This includes selecting and evaluating documents, summarizing relevant materials, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing background materials for assessment papers, studies, briefs, and reports. The officer will also be responsible for maintaining and updating electronic and paper files, designing reports and presentations, and participating in policy discussions related to the New Urban Agenda. The role requires collaboration with various departments and organizations to ensure comprehensive data collection and analysis, contributing to the overall mission of promoting sustainable urbanization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Programme Management Officer include:
  • Assisting in identifying and monitoring substantive aspects of the New Urban Agenda in various regions and countries.
  • Selecting and evaluating a variety of documents, summarizing pertinent material, and preparing background materials for assessment papers, studies, briefs, and reports.
  • Systematically retrieving and compiling information from diverse sources related to the New Urban Agenda.
  • Assembling and examining original statistical material to ensure accuracy and validity.
  • Preparing, maintaining, and updating electronic and paper files and internal databases.
  • Designing and generating periodic and ad hoc reports, presentations, statistical tables, and other materials.
  • Preparing content for the New Urban Agenda Platform and participating in substantive discussions on the agenda.
  • Maintaining contacts with other departments and organizations to coordinate data collection efforts.
  • Drafting programme/project summaries and coordinating the review and clearance process. 1
  • Assisting with data presentations and reports for information sharing and decision-making. 1
  • Updating information materials such as web pages or brochures. 1
  • Performing other related work as required.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of experience in collecting and researching data across various areas of social and economic development or a related field. This requirement is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Desirable qualifications include experience in social science research, inter-governmental processes, research methodologies, and data collection and maintenance. Familiarity with the United Nations Common System or similar international organizations is also advantageous, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools. Experience in data analytics or related areas is a plus.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. There are no specific job-specific qualifications mentioned, but a first-level university degree or higher is preferred to reduce the experience requirement.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in data collection and research, with a reduction to five years for those holding a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in social science research, inter-governmental processes, and data analytics is desirable, as well as familiarity with the United Nations system or similar international organizations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another United Nations official language, such as French, is desirable. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas: reading, writing, speaking, and understanding, while knowledge is rated as 'confident' in two of the four areas.
