Job Overview: The consultant position is integral to the Cool Coalition under the Mitigation Branch of UNEP, focusing on accelerating efforts to expand sustainable, efficient, climate-friendly cooling solutions globally. The role involves providing technical assistance to various stakeholders, including governments and private entities, to implement comprehensive measures addressing cooling demand. The consultant will engage in reviewing and providing technical input for global tools and methodologies, particularly in the context of the ASEAN PCS roadmap development. Additionally, the consultant will support urban and passive cooling project implementations in Vietnam and Cambodia, contributing to the preparation of funding proposals and convening technical expert working groups. This position requires a blend of technical, organizational, and analytical skills to effectively support UNEP's initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a range of tasks, including:
Providing technical expertise in the preparation of funding proposals for both efficient climate-friendly cooling and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) projects.
Supporting the implementation of urban cooling and passive cooling projects in Vietnam and Cambodia, including NCAP development support.
Convening and developing terms of reference (ToRs) for technical expert working groups, and preparing meeting reports for these groups.
Assisting in the development of case studies on NbS for cooling and supporting the ongoing implementation of UNEP’s projects in the Asia-Pacific region.
Engaging in advocacy and outreach efforts at global platforms such as COP 30, OEWG, and MOP 37, ensuring that UNEP’s activities align with other internal programs and Coalition partners.
Activating a knowledge base and providing advisory support to enhance the effectiveness of UNEP’s initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in international relations, development, public administration, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of two years of professional experience in project management is required. Familiarity with the buildings and construction sector, climate change, and energy efficiency is desirable. Experience working with UN agencies is also advantageous, as it demonstrates an understanding of the UN's operational frameworks and collaborative processes.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is an advanced university degree, specifically a Master's degree or its equivalent, in fields such as international relations, development studies, public administration, or similar disciplines. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to effectively contribute to UNEP's initiatives.
Experience: The position requires at least two years of professional experience in project management. This experience should ideally include exposure to the buildings and construction sector, as well as knowledge of climate change and energy efficiency practices. Prior experience working with UN agencies is also considered beneficial, as it provides insight into the operational dynamics and collaborative nature of international organizations.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage, as it enhances communication capabilities within the diverse linguistic landscape of the UN and its partners.
