Job Overview: The Protection from Violence Team Leader will play a crucial role in managing and implementing protection projects aimed at assisting vulnerable populations, particularly refugees and IDPs. This position requires a passionate individual who is experienced in humanitarian work, particularly in protection case management. The Team Leader will oversee project staff, ensuring that the implementation of protection activities aligns with NRC policies and guidelines. The role involves daily management of project staff, monitoring project progress, and ensuring compliance with established protocols. The Team Leader will also be responsible for capacity building among staff, promoting the rights of IDPs and returnees, and collaborating with local authorities and stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of protection initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Protection from Violence Team Leader include:
Management of project staff, ensuring effective implementation of protection projects.
Implementing the plan of action for the delegated portfolio of Protection from Violence projects, including activities, budget management, and project documentation.
Daily monitoring of project implementation progress and ensuring compliance with NRC policies and guidelines.
Identifying and targeting beneficiaries in need, exploring new methods to assist them.
Preparing periodic progress reports and other necessary documentation.
Capacity building of project staff and transferring key skills.
Liaising and collaborating with local authorities and stakeholders to promote the rights of IDPs and returnees.
Daily management and supervision of protection case management staff, providing technical support and guidance.
Overseeing awareness-raising activities and developing messaging for the community. 1
Managing individual protection cases and maintaining confidentiality and consent protocols. 1
Conducting intake assessments and creating client-centered case plans. 1
Providing psycho-social support to clients as needed. 1
Regularly monitoring and evaluating the quality of activities and adherence to security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and protection policies.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Protection from Violence Team Leader position should possess the following qualifications:
Proven experience in implementing protection from violence projects in humanitarian or recovery contexts.
Previous experience working in complex and volatile environments.
Documented results related to the responsibilities of the position.
Strong leadership skills and knowledge of personal leadership profile.
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is essential.
Knowledge of the context in Northeast Nigeria and familiarity with local languages such as Hausa and Fulani is highly desirable.
Experience with protection case management, including general protection, GBV, or CP case management.
Well-developed organizational skills and experience with case management and IPA databases. 1
Good knowledge of data protection standards and experience in team management is a plus.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a relevant educational background, typically a degree in social sciences, humanitarian studies, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in protection, social work, or related areas will be considered an advantage. Continuous professional development in humanitarian response and protection issues is also beneficial.
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience, ideally a minimum of 3-5 years in a similar role within a humanitarian context. Experience in protection case management, particularly in settings involving IDPs, refugees, and returnees, is crucial. Candidates should demonstrate a history of successful project implementation and management in challenging environments.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of local languages, particularly Hausa and Fulani, is considered a strong asset and will enhance communication with beneficiaries and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Yola and Mubi, Nigeria, and may involve travel to other locations within the region. The role is full-time and may require working in insecure environments.
