Job Overview: The consultancy position involves conducting capacity-building training for 12 psychologists and 12 Psychosocial Mobile Teams (PMTs) on a community-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) approach. The training will utilize the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework and will include the development of intervention protocols to assist the teams in delivering effective CBT-based support to individuals in need. The consultant will be responsible for assessing training needs, developing training materials, facilitating workshops, and providing mentoring sessions to ensure the practical application of CBT techniques. This role is crucial in enhancing the skills of mental health professionals working with conflict-affected populations in Nigeria, particularly in the states of Plateau, Kaduna, and Taraba.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake several key tasks, including: conducting a pre-training needs assessment with psychologists and PMTs to identify capacity gaps; developing a comprehensive implementation plan that outlines objectives, protocols, timelines, deliverables, and operational guidelines; designing structured training modules supported by lesson plans, facilitation guides, workshop presentations, case studies, role-play exercises, and accessible training materials translated into Hausa; submitting all training materials and intervention protocols for technical review and validation; facilitating a five-day capacity-building workshop for psychologists and PMTs in Jos, Plateau State; conducting pre- and post-training evaluations, analyzing data, and compiling findings into a formal report; and providing one to two post-training mentoring sessions to support the practical application of CBT techniques by field teams. Additionally, the consultant will deliver a final comprehensive report summarizing all activities, outcomes, and actionable recommendations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in fields such as Psychology (Applied, Clinical, or Developmental Psychology), Counseling, Social Work, Psychiatry, or Occupational Therapy. They must also have completed a recognized CBT certification program, such as the Primary Certificate in CBT, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Rational Behavior Therapy, Rational Living Therapy, Certified Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist (CCBT), or Diplomate in CBT (DCBT). Furthermore, candidates should have supervised clinical experience in CBT practice and provide letters of recommendation from mental health professionals familiar with their CBT skills. Affiliation with a recognized Nigerian counseling body, such as the Nigerian Association of Clinical Psychologists (NACP), Nigerian Psychological Association (NPA), or Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), is also required, along with completion of supervised practice and passing relevant exams.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Psychiatry, or Occupational Therapy. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively deliver the training and support required for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a significant level of professional experience, particularly in the field of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This includes supervised clinical experience in CBT practice, which is critical for the consultant to effectively train and mentor others. Experience working with conflict-affected populations and in community-based mental health settings will be highly advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all training materials and sessions will be conducted in English. Additionally, proficiency in Hausa is highly desirable, as training materials will be translated into Hausa to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all participants.

The consultancy fee is set at $2,101.47 per month, or $70.05 per day, which is an all-inclusive fee. Payment will be made in two installments: 50% after the completion of assigned tasks and the remaining 50% after the submission and validation of the final report. The consultant will be responsible for all deliverables as outlined in the Terms of Reference (ToR), while IOM will cover costs for local travel, including flight or road travel costs, administrative-related costs, terminal transfers, and accommodation where applicable.
