Job Overview: The Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of IOM’s Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) activities related to various projects in Nigeria, specifically the GIZ Project in Plateau, Taraba, and Kaduna states, as well as the CPCRR Project in Katsina and Zamfara states. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager for Protection/MHPSS and will closely coordinate with other unit staff. The primary responsibilities include assisting in the collection, compilation, and reporting of project data, preparing M&E reports, and ensuring quality checks during data collection and entry. The role also involves maintaining project databases, supporting capacity building for project management teams, and participating in field monitoring visits. The assistant will contribute to the development of M&E activity plans and assist in conducting surveys and assessments, thereby ensuring that project objectives are met effectively and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant include:
Assisting in the preparation of Monitoring and Evaluation reports by compiling data from field teams and entering it into reporting templates.
Supporting quality checks during data collection, entry, and storage, and reporting any inconsistencies to the M&E team.
Supporting capacity building of Project Management Teams (PMTs) on data capture and routine monitoring of projects, including basic use of Excel and simple data visualization tools.
Assisting in orienting staff under guidance.
Collaborating with toll-line handlers to share information and verify feedback received from communities.
Participating in monitoring visits to field locations and documenting case studies and success stories.
Assisting in conducting Post Distribution Monitoring surveys, including data collection, basic analysis, and report preparation.
Contributing to individual M&E activity plans and providing supporting information for the unit’s M&E activity plan. 1
Taking part in M&E assessments by assisting with data collection, recording, and reporting. 1
Helping track process indicators using the database and compiling Means of Verification (MoVs). 1
Supporting basic pre- and post-test training activities. 1
Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant position include:
A High School diploma with five years of related experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Business Administration, Economics, Humanitarian Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of related experience.
Experience in supporting project monitoring and evaluation activities, including data collection, entry, and reporting.
Experience in assisting with report preparation by compiling information from multiple sources.
Proficiency in using Excel or other basic data entry/analysis tools.
Experience working with diverse communities, preferably including vulnerable or marginalized groups.
Knowledge of social and development issues in Nigeria, particularly within the area of responsibility.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes either a High School diploma with five years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Social Sciences, Business Administration, Economics, or Humanitarian Studies from an accredited institution. Accreditation should be verified through the UNESCO World Higher Education Database to ensure the institution meets international standards.
Experience: Candidates should possess a minimum of three years of relevant experience if holding a Bachelor’s degree, or five years if holding a High School diploma. Experience should include supporting project monitoring and evaluation activities, data collection, entry, and reporting, as well as assisting in report preparation and working with diverse communities, particularly vulnerable or marginalized groups. Familiarity with social and development issues in Nigeria is also essential.
Languages: The position requires a working knowledge of the local language, which is essential for effective communication with community members. Additionally, proficiency in IOM’s official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, is beneficial. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Nigeria will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and government authorizations where applicable. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
