Job Overview: The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Coordination Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of IIIM personnel and property, enabling the organization to conduct its operations effectively in a secure environment. This position requires a proactive approach to security risk management, focusing on the duty of care for staff and partners. The officer will coordinate with the Security and Safety Service (SSS) in Geneva and the United Nations Department for Safety and Security (UNDSS) to develop and implement security frameworks for IIIM operations both in the office and in the field. The officer will be responsible for planning security responses, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with security measures mandated by the UN. This role is vital for maintaining a secure working environment for all IIIM staff and facilitating the organization's mission in a challenging context.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Security Coordination Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: 1) Security response planning and communication: - Collaborating with SSS Geneva to plan security responses and ensure effective communication regarding safety measures. - Developing policy advice on security issues and drafting the overall security plan for IIIM operations. - Conducting background checks on potential staff to assess risks. - Ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations and conducting fire drills. - Updating Personal Security Risk Assessments (PSRAs) for senior personnel. - Conducting security assessments of IIIM premises and recommending necessary upgrades. 2) Coordination of field security-related matters: - Supervising security aspects of IIIM activities in field operations and providing technical oversight. - Preparing security guidelines for field missions and assessing security conditions. - Liaising with UNDSS and other agencies to enhance staff security. - Planning and implementing security training for staff at all levels. - Responding to emergencies and advising management on security issues.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in security management, with a solid understanding of military, law enforcement, or other security specializations. They should demonstrate the ability to handle stress effectively and maintain professionalism in challenging situations. The role requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. Candidates should also be able to develop clear goals and prioritize tasks effectively, demonstrating strong planning and organizational skills. Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in security management, business administration, political/social science, psychology, criminal justice, law, international relations, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. Candidates with a diploma from a police or military education institution obtained over a minimum of three years may also be considered.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in governmental, institutional, or corporate security risk management and operations at the international level is required. At least two years of direct field experience in an international context is desirable, particularly in high-risk settings. Experience with security frameworks related to evidence collection is also beneficial, as is professional work experience in the Middle East.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is desirable, and knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in diverse environments.
